Next Wednesday, March 11 at 6 pm ET, TheDream.US and Congressional staff will be hosting a virtual session, “Dream Act: What It Is & How You Can Help”, to clearly explain what the Dream Act is, what it could change, and what it might mean for our Scholars and Alumni.
If passed, the Dream Act could provide permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship for many Dreamers. This session is about breaking it down in simple, real terms, including:
• Explaining what the bill actually says
• Sharing who could qualify
• Answering common questions
• Talking about how people can help move it forward

| Immigration Q&A: Top 3 Takeaways | | |
Last week, we held our first Immigration Q&A session of the year. President and CEO, Gaby Pacheco, and Chief of Staff and Government Affairs, Susan Collins, led a presentation on the current state of DACA and the urgency in renewing as early as possible. They also discussed how Scholars and Alum should prepare an emergency plan.
Through the presentation and Q&A section, three top takeaways emerged:
- Traveling between states comes with significant increased risk, regardless of status, and should be avoided.
- There are significant delays in USCIS processing DACA renewals, Scholars/Alum should apply as close to 150 days in advance of expiration.
- Scholars need to have an emergency preparedness plan with important documents, contacts and action items in case of an immigration emergency.

| | 1-1 Immigration Screenings for Current Scholars Reopened | |
Screenings are designed to help your Scholars understand their immigration status and any options available for adjustment. Now more than ever, it is important for your Scholars to have access to an immigration attorney they can trust. Screenings are free, confidential and will not affect their scholarship in any way.
We need your help to encourage Scholars to sign up by completing the Initial Screening Request Form. If they have already completed one of our screenings, they should not submit a new request.

| Read: “If ICE Won’t Show a Warrant, What Can Campuses Do?” | | |
Last week, Inside Higher Ed published this article on how the latest detainment of Columbia student, Ellie Aghayeva raises new questions for college leaders on how to prepare and strengthen protocols for ICE presence on-campus.
TheDream.US President & CEO Gaby Pacheco is quoted in the article saying, “College campuses, unfortunately, from students to professors and staff, are now going to have to be vigilant and ensure that they protect each other, because we cannot trust our government to do the right thing."
