Yajaira is a dedicated public servant and advocate for immigrant communities. Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, Yajaira immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 8 and has called Nebraska home for over 20 years. She became the first in her family to graduate from high school and went on to earn a full-ride scholarship to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Political Science, followed by a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Public Policy.

Throughout her career, Yajaira has focused on community organizing, advocacy, and higher education.
