Join us this Friday, April 22, at 1:00pm for the second annual Workforce Development Symposium. This year, our keynote speaker is Dr. Ana Diez Roux of Drexel University. Dr. Diez Roux is a recent recipient of an NIH FIRST (Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation) grant, an initiative that launched last year with the goals of enhancing and maintaining cultures of inclusive excellence in health research community and supporting career development of diverse faculty.

Becoming a Resilient Scientist: Understanding Cognitive Distortions, Imposter Fears and Stereotype Threat - Apr. 21st
Co-hosted by NIH and the National Postdoctoral Association, this postdoc community session will look at two important elements of self-talk, cognitive distortions and imposter fears, and explore ways to recognize internal messages and input from others that distorts our views of our abilities and accomplishments.

Faces of Faith Photographic Display and Storytelling about Breast and Cervical Cancer - Apr. 27th
Faces of Faith will recognize and celebrate several local women, who are breast and cervical cancer survivors. Through a photographic display and storytelling, these women’s lived experiences of faith and resilience will inform, encourage, and uplift others.

Connect:Science - "Reciprocal Interplay Between Tissue Tension and Anti-Tumor Immunity" - May 3rd
The next DF/HCC Connect:Science session will be on May 3rd featuring a presentation from Dr. Valerie Weaver on "Reciprocal Interplay Between Tissue Tension and Anti-Tumor Immunity." Previous seminars can be viewed on the website.
Student Spotlight Chen Wen Ye
Chen Wen is an undergraduate student working in the lab of Dr. Michelle Foster, an associate professor and Chair of the Chemistry department as well as a former U54 Partnership pilot project recipient.

Chen Wen’s goal is to obtain an MD/PhD and ultimately become a practicing oncologist and researcher. She is highly interested in cancer research, treatment and drug development.
