The PEDC team is having a fruitful year finding progress in the ongoing development projects and initiatives executed in the City. The Pasadena Pulse serves as a vessel to keep the community abreast of industry news, and economic development activity in the City of Pasadena, and the greater gulf coast region, covering beautification projects, infrastructure improvements, business development and more.

PEDC UPDATES
Shaw Ave District Revitalization Phase I: Complete

PEDC is pleased to announce a major milestone completion for the revitalization of the Shaw Avenue District, including infrastructure upgrades, pedestrian improvements, and green infrastructure. A key phase has been completed for the overall strategic revitalization of Historic Pasadena.

PEDC Awarded Brownfields Grant from EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Brownfields Assessment Program awarded a $500K grant to PEDC providing technical assistance to assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse contaminated properties in the Pasadena community.

Bike Safety Event - Memorial Park at Vince Bayou

In collaboration with City of Pasadena Parks & Recreation Dept. and Houston Parks Board, PEDC hosted a Bike Shop Talk & Ride Community Event at Memorial Park. Community members had the opportunity to provide input on the Vince Bayou Greenway Project and enjoyed a bike ride and bike safety workshop provided by local business, Bay Area Cycling.

New Gateway Install Along Hwy 225 Nearing Completion

The upgrade to the existing gateway sign at Hwy 225 & Richey St is nearing completion with only landscaping and illumination components left. The upgraded monument features Pasadena's new community-wide brand and will contribute to the beautification of the City.

Little Vince Bayou Development on the Horizon

Derived directly from the City's Livable Centers Study I, PEDC is launching the Little Vince Bayou Greenway Project with the help of Houston Parks Board. This on-street bike/pedestrian trail helps fulfill the City's live-work-play goals.

Wayfinding Project Takes Flight

Signage and wayfinding systems guide people through a physical environment and enhance their understanding and experience of the space. PEDC has selected a consultant to design and implement a comprehensive City Wayfinding System.

Pasadena to Embark on Livable Centers Plan II

The Healthy Pasadena Livable Centers Study presents an opportunity to study a 600-acre area that's home to the largest density of Pasadena's Senior population and provide recommendations to guide the City on the path to making it a destination for health and wellness in Southeast Harris County. AECOM will be the consultant for the study. More details to be released in the coming months.

RECENT LOCAL & INDUSTRY NEWS
Recently, the Pasadena Loves Local Committee held its first "Put Pasadena to Work" Job Fair. The event saw a huge turnout of community members. The Small Business Resource Fair, built to educate the Pasadena Small Business Community of local resources available, was held on 6/29 which also saw a great turnout. PEDC invites you to explore all the ways you can be a part of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce's IMPACT Pasadena Leadership Program. IMPACT Pasadena is a transformative professional leadership experience built for Pasadena's business and community leaders. The program is accepting applications for the 2023 cohort until September 21, 2022. There are also plentiful sponsorship opportunities to support the program. San Jacinto College was recently named one of the 10 finalists for the 2023 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. The Prize is the nation's signature recognition of community colleges that are achieving high and equitable outcomes for students. Image via sanjac.edu
Recently, Port Houston launched the long-awaited $1 billion expansion of the Houston Ship Channel dubbed "Project 11." Officials say it will relieve congestion in one of the world's biggest waterways and raise the region's standing as a center of international trade and boost the local economy.

UPDATE ON CURRENT INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS

Richey Street - Phase II
Investment: $2 million
Coverage: ~ 0.5 mile (Southmore Ave. to South Houston Rd.)
Update: Project Consultant has been selected; Mainlane Industries. The project consists of two contracts- signage project and roadway project. Construction expected to be complete by January 2023.

Shaw Avenue
Investment: $2.8 million
Coverage: Carl Street to McMasters Avenue
Update: Construction is complete as of June 2022.
