January 31, 2018
Our choir led the Carroll Community during the opening of Catholic Schools Week 2018.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist, celebrated by Father Mike Speziale, Carroll's Director of Campus Ministry, was held Monday, Jan. 29.

Mr. Zachary Larimer (in the red circle), Director of Instrumental Music for Carroll, is a member of the Eagles Drumline, which performs at home games. He is next to Questlove of the The Roots. Unfortunately, Mr. Larimer said the Drumline will not be in Minneapolis this Sunday for Super Bowl LII.

"E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!"
Carroll family steps up

The Carroll Cheerleaders received an incredible gift from one of their own.

Vicki Galie ‘18, the only senior on Varsity, lives with Cystic Fibrosis. She was chosen for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and when they asked her what she wanted, she said, “Nothing really, just new cheer mats for my team.”

Only after Kim and Kevin, Vicki’s parents, offered to buy the new mats themselves, did Vicki agree to choose something for herself that she could enjoy.

On Jan. 25, the girls were surprised with the Galie Family’s gift. Even though Vicki will only get to use the mats for two more weeks, she will always be with the team on the mat!

“What Vicki did for Archbishop Carroll cheerleading was the most selfless thing,” said Alison Reynolds, Carroll’s Cheerleading coach. “We have always been thankful for her, and we thank Viki and her family for our gorgeous new red mats!

Vicki’s family also runs a huge fundraising event every year called Wishes and Dreams for CF. All of the proceeds go to help fund research to find a cure for CF.

Carroll institutes Khan Academy pilot program

Studies have proven that using the Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy for 20 hours is associated with an average increase of 115 points from the PSAT/NMSQT to the SAT. For this reason, the Carroll Math Department has decided to implement a pilot program during the third quarter to encourage students to utilize this free and personalized math program.

When students link their College Board account with Khan Academy, a customized program is designed based on the results on their PSAT.

For students currently enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2*, all math teachers will be assigning 20 minutes per week (4 minutes per day) of practice as a homework assignment on a weekly basis during the third quarter. This will be on top of any homework assigned on a daily basis.

Please note that this time does not necessarily have to be completed at home, but may be completed when they have down time in school as well.

We appreciate your support with this initiative. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Corkery at jcorkery@jcarroll.org or Erin Newman at enewman@jcarroll.org

* The decision to implement this initiative for students currently enrolled in Pre-calculus, Statistics, or Calculus will be left to the individual teacher.
