Richie Kimmel '20 named to All State team

Junior linebacker Richie Kimmel was named to the 2018 PAFootballNews.com Class 4A Coach’s Select All-State Team.

Head coaches were asked to submit nominations for their class and others if they wished. Over 700 players were nominated. Once compiled, the ballots went back out and nearly 200 coaches voted on the 2018 All State teams.

Erin Sweeney '20 is Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week
The junior recently scored 36 points in a double-overtime win against Staten Island Academy, then followed it up with a 26-point performance against Bonner-Prendergast.

As a sophomore, Erin was an All-Catholic League selection, averaging 10 points per game and was a key player in the Patriots’ drive to the PIAA 5A state semifinals.

Off the court, she is a member of Student Ambassadors at Carroll.

Seniors Jason Zambella (captain), Chris Waldmann (assistant captain) and Matthew Petusky (assistant captain) represented Carroll at the 50th Annual ISCHL All Star Game on New Year's Day at Ice Line in West Chester.
Joe Liciardello named new Baseball Coach

Carroll baseball players were introduced to their new head head coach on Jan. 2, 2019, after they returned from Christmas break.

Joe Liciardello takes over the reins of the program after coaching baseball at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Chestnut Hill since 2014.

Next Meeting
The next Parent's Association meeting will be Monday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m., in the Library. We are having a presenter from Minding your Mind .

This interactive presentation is an introduction to mental health, which is designed to train both adults and youth on how to recognize the warning signs of stress, anxiety, depression, and crisis.  Just Talk About It  will educate adolescents and the adults who support them to look beyond stigma and notice warning signs in themselves and their peers. Light refreshments will be served.

Volunteer meeting Tuesday, Jan. 22, 7 p.m., in the Library. T he 34th Annual CAFÉ - "Carroll Auction For Education" - our “March Madness” event, takes place Saturday, Mar. 30, 2019, with all proceeds benefiting the students.

SAT Registration
Juniors are encouraged to register for the spring SAT at  www.collegeboard.org  or ACT at  www.actstudent.org . The deadline for the March SAT is Friday, Feb. 8, and the April ACT is Friday, March 8. Juniors are also encouraged to continue researching and visiting colleges.

Mrs. Collins from the Guidance Department has visited all of the sophomore English classes to complete a career interest survey through Naviance. Sophomores are encouraged to continue investigating careers and begin researching colleges.

SAT Prep Classes
Session III of the  SAT Prep Classes  will be held from Feb. 4-27, 2019. This is in preparation for the March 9, 2019 SAT test. This session is for Juniors only. Registration forms are available online, in the Main Office and Guidance Office. Registrations, along with payment, should be turned into the Guidance Office.   

Fisher House Foundation Scholarships for Military Children
Fisher House Foundation is sponsoring scholarships for military children in recognition of the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military family community. Program is open to sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers. Recipient must be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a four-year undergraduate college or university, accredited in the U.S. or a two-year community college. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  A total of 500 scholarship grants, each for $2,000, will be awarded for school year 2019-20. For more information and to apply, click  here .

Doodle 4 Google Scholarship
Google is sponsoring a Doodle 4 Google Scholarship for kindergarten through 12th grade students.  Students are asked to bring their creativity to life in a Doodle of the Google logo, using any medium they choose for the chance to be a Doodle 4 Google winner. The National Winner’s artwork will be featured on the Google homepage, and will win a $30,000 scholarship and a $50,000 tech grant for their school. For more information and to apply, click   here.

Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest
The Wayne Rotary District 7450 is sponsoring a Four-Way Test Speech Contest for students in 9th through 12th grades.  Contestants will develop a speech on any subject and apply the “Four-Way Test” (1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? and 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?) throughout their speech. The speech must be between 5 and 7 minutes long and should evaluate some moral or ethical issue against the test.  Contestants will present their speech before Wayne Rotary on the evening of January 23. The winner will move on to the semi-final Regional Contest, to be held on the 8th or 9th of February. The Final speech presentation and award ceremony will be held March 16th in the early afternoon at the Springfield Country Club.  For more information go to  Contest . If interested, students should fill out the contest entry form and return the form to the Guidance Office.

Mini-Med Summer Camp at Drexel University

Mother-Daughter Luncheon
Seniors and their Mothers are invited to the Annual Senior Mother-Daughter Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at The Club at Shannondell from 11:30-2:00 p.m. Invitations can a be found  HERE . RSVP's are due Thursday, Jan. 31. We hope all of our senior ladies and their Moms will join us for this special event!
Snowball Dance Added
Back by student demand, we will be holding a Snowball Dance on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 7-10 p.m. Tickets for Carroll students cost $10, and the cost for guests is $20. All proceeds will benefit PatrioTHON. While dates are optional, any Carroll student who wishes to take a non-Carroll guest must have the date form filled out ( CLICK HERE ). Tickets for Snowball go on sale in OSA Jan. 17 and 18.  
 
Dance attire is semi-formal. Suggested attire for gentlemen- collared shirt and tie (no jeans or shorts). Jackets are optional. Suggested attire for ladies- semi-formal dresses with attention to appropriate fit, neckline, and length. Students may be sent home by the administration due to inappropriate attire.  
 
Yearbooks
Yearbooks are being sold through the Jostens website this year for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. To order, please  CLICK HERE .  The cost of the yearbook is $90. The deadline to order a yearbook is Friday, Jan. 25. No extra copies will be available in June, so please plan accordingly. Members of the Class of 2019 will receive a copy of the yearbook with their name embossed on the cover as part of the Graduation fee and do not need to order one from Jostens.  
Winter Show

The Archbishop Carroll Theatre Society will perform  A Midsummer Night’s Dream  on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7:00 p,.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10. Carroll students will be admitted free of charge with their student ID. We hope to see you there!
 
PatrioTHON
Archbishop Carroll will host its fourth annual PatrioTHON to support The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Catholic Charities, and Catholic Relief Services. PatrioTHON will be held on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Thursday, Jan. 17 and Friday, Jan. 18, in OSA. The PatrioTHON Permission Packet is available in OSA and must be signed by both students and parents in order for students to attend this spectacular Carroll event.
