Carroll Lax gives back
The Carroll Girls Lacrosse Team trained with their counterparts at Hazelton Area High School, a Lady Patriots’ service project

The team started five years ago with Coach Bethanne Hudock and Coach Gwen Valkusky leading the girls in Hazelton who wanted to play lacrosse.

Last year they came to Carroll for the playday. Carroll paid a return visit on Apr. 14, due in part because Coach Valkusky cannot travel due to a cancer diagnosis.

“We keep her in our prayers and thankfully she came to see us for a little bit Sunday,” said Carroll Coach Lorraine Beers. “We had three more t-shirts to present her. That started this past summer when she was diagnosed and to cheer her up, Sammy Swart ‘17 got a Syracuse t-shirt signed by all her teammates to send to Gwen."

"Then we found out she loves the University of North Carolina.  I have a club player there, so we got her a UNC signed shirt. When we went up in April, we brought shirts from several other Carroll alums:  Loyola from Katie Detwiler ‘18; Ohio State Meghan Matey ‘16; and James Madison from Rachel Matey '17."
