No quit in Carroll as Patriots earn a fourth straight PCL title

From Delaware County Daily Times:

Four times Cardinal O’Hara had a chance to end Archbishop Carroll’s reign as Catholic League volleyball champions in the fourth set Sunday night, and each time the Patriots showed their championship mettle.

Carroll withstood that challenge and came back to take the fourth set, then went on to complete a comeback from a two-set deficit to win its fourth consecutive league title with a thrilling 3-2 triumph over the Lions at Neumann’s Mirenda Center.

Junior outside hitter/defensive specialist Meghan McCann put home the winning point, just as she had in Carroll’s four-set win over Archbishop Wood in the semifinals four days earlier, to complete an improbable 12-25, 19-25, 25-16, 31-29, 15-8 come-from-behind victory.

Carroll eases past O’Hara while easing Minor-Shaw back in

From PA Prep Live:

The biggest play of Friday’s game didn’t find its intended target. But then again, in a battle of Catholic League Class 4A teams that have dealt with injuries all year, adapting is nothing new.

Nick Lamey rolled out as the horn sounded on the first half and spotted Tyler Alston tracking to the end zone to await the Hail Mary heave. As Alston settled into a pocket between defensive backs, Lamey watched the arc of the ball and thought he’d connected.

Out of nowhere, though, came Carroll receiver Brennan Robinson, swooping in to make the catch, almost out of Alston’s hands.

“To be honest, that was not meant for Brennan,” Lamey said. “That was going right to my friend Tyler. But I was running, saw Tyler deep, threw it and Brennan came in like a hawk and hawked it down.”

Ryan Daley '16 will be St. Joseph’s focal point
From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Right now, Hawk Hill on a basketball evening is a sensory adjustment, from the sudden lightness of the court itself to a familiar yet vastly different figure pacing in front of the St. Joseph’s Hawks bench. Transition in full progress.

You could argue that Ryan Daly is the perfect guy to have the ball in his hands during such a transition. After sitting out a season, the Delaware transfer will have the ball a lot, on the break, out on the wing, posting up.

“He’s a bulldozer!’’ a Hawks student said to his seatmate during a recent exhibition game. He used the term as a full compliment, seeing Daly on the move, straight ahead with the ball at full speed, seeing how the play worked out. That play aside, Daly’s game actually doesn’t rely on bulldozing — there’s a dexterity about it, an ability to work in tight spaces.
