Dear Sally,
The Pearl of Great Price
A New Heart, a New Life, and Salvation are absolutely free--BUT it costs you everything! Deuteronomy 3:3, 6:5, 11:13, 28. How can this be?
In the parable of the Pearl of Great Price, Christ does not represent the pearl as a gift! Why? Because the gift of Christ indwelling us, is given upon conditions. It is given ONLY to those who give themselves, soul, body, and spirit to Him without reserve. Numbers 15:39-41.
Why? Because God cannot abide in a divided heart.
In the parable Matthew 13:45-46, says the merchantman was SEEKING goodly pearls. When he found the pearl of great price, he saw its value, and SOLD ALL he had to POSSESS it.
The selling of all to possess this pearl is the giving of ourselves for Christ to mold, shape, and fashion our characters after His character each and every day of our lives! We become like Him, choice by choice and day by day. As we daily choose to live a life of willing cooperation to all His standards, surrendering our self-led ways in thoughts, words, and actions; this is how we purchase the pearl of Great Price and possess Christ’s character. We can choose to be wholly His!
Our character redeemed to become like Christ, can be as beautiful as this scene in nature.
