Welcome to the digital MPERS newsletter! The Pensioner: In the Moment contains news, updates, and important information for retirees of the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and MPERS.

MPERS Represented at 2024 MAPERS Conference

The annual Missouri Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems (MAPERS) conference was held on July 10-12 at Lake of the Ozarks and several MPERS staff and MPERS Board of Trustees were in attendance. 


Dan Meers, also known as KC Wolf the mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs, served as the keynote speaker. He delivered a positive and encouraging message focused on character, purpose, and passion.


Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jennifer Even participated in a panel with CFOs from other systems including the Local Area Government Employees' Retirement System (LAGERS), Public School Retirement System (PSRS), and the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS).

Attending the MAPERS conference helps trustees meet continuing education requirements. 


According to the MPERS ‘Board of Trustee governance policy, trustees must complete a minimum of six hours of continuing education each year.

Investment Update

The System turned in a preliminary net return of 12.7% for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. The financial books are not yet closed for the fiscal year, so this number is subject to change. Performance should be finalized sometime in mid-August, and we hope to have the results in the October newsletter.
