The Pepper Pike Post

Mayor's message:

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As Summer begins, June will be an exciting month in Pepper Pike, filled with wonderful events for everyone to enjoy!

I hope to see all of you at our 10th annual Taste of Pepper Pike on Sunday, June 22nd. There are great returning and many new vendors this year, along with the sounds of the great Mike Petrone Band, featuring Kristine Jackson!. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience delicious food from in and around our community and to just have a really fun time with your friends and neighbors! Tickets will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2nd and can be purchased online at the link below, or in person at the Pepper Pike Service Department, Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Order your tickets Monday before they are gone! We will send to you a reminder on Monday so you don't miss out!

Evening fun in the parks also returns in June! We will be kicking off our free Movie in the Park series this coming Friday, June 6th with a screening of Inside Out 2. The movie will start at dusk, so bring your blankets, chairs, and family for a fun evening under the stars. The free popcorn and snow cones will be ready for you!

This season’s Music in the Park series begins on Friday, June 13th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Bring your friends and family to enjoy a wonderful evening of live music from The Goods in our beautiful Pepper Pike Park.

Additionally, please join us for the 4th annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 14th, as the City of Pepper Pike partners with Ursuline College. This event will take place at Ursuline College from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This important event honors African American freedom and achievement, and with our Ursuline College partners there is a day filled with activities, food, music and learning planned for all ages. For more information, please click HERE.

Finally, the Summer Solstice and our new Gates Mills Park and Trail will be celebrated on Friday, June 20th as we officially launch and dedicate the park! Please come join me as we together cut the ribbon and take the "official" inaugural walk up the trail on this first day of summer! Even if you have already visited the trail ( as many have), or if you have not already seen and walked the trail and witnessed the transformation of the median to a beautiful park, this will be a fun way to celebrate the longest day of the year and beginning of summer for you and your kids, as we come together as community to celebrate summer 2025 and our newest park!

Warmest regards,

Mayor Richard Bain

Medical Education Program

Pepper Pike-Orange Library Medical Education Program

(AKA Medical School for Everyone)

Seminars and Discussions with Dr. Gary S. Hoffman

How good is the FDA and big Pharma at protecting you from bad drugs and devices?

June 11, 2025

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

The City of Pepper Pike has teamed up with Pepper Pike resident, Dr. Gary Hoffman, Retired Chair of the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic and Professor Emeritus of the Lerner College of Medicine to present “Medical School for Everyone” for our Pepper Pike residents (and others who might be interested). All programs will be hosted at the Cuyahoga County Orange Library.

Dr. Hoffman has authored over 350 articles and has edited four books. He has taught body function, health, disease and prevention to children, adults, doctors and even professors world-wide. He strongly believes that everyone should know how their body works, how it can be damaged, how you can stack the odds in your favor to avoid illness and how doctors can help when your body fails to heal itself. After attending these lecture/discussion sessions, attendees will better understand body function and illness and be a better partner with their doctors in providing and receiving medical care. Along the way, attendees will become fascinated with how extraordinary their body is (most of the time) and have some fun!

There was once a time – the days of snake oil salesmen - when you could make a product and sell it without any oversight. Apart from emptying your pockets, some of those products were harmless, but others were harmful. Producers and sellers told outright lies about their products. Something needed to be done to protect the public. While the “Pure Food and Drug Act” of 1906 set rules for drug production facilities, the requirement to prove a product was safe and useful did not occur until 1938! The government agency charged with oversight for compliance was the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Come and find out about the many steps involved in drug discovery, proof of benefit and getting a useful drug to people. Does the process work? How well? Are there forces at play that jeopardize the integrity of this process?
