As the pandemic continues to evolve and create new challenges for school districts, student behaviors are escalating like never before. As a result, school districts are experiencing an increases in incidents of HIB, as well as a greater demand for mental health services and growing concerns about potential mass scale school violence. This session will review the latest developments regarding these overlapping challenges, including recently enacted legislation, new case law, and the latest state and federal guidance regarding bullying, mental health, and school violence. Participants will receive tips on identifying and addressing student needs that often require a multi-pronged approach that considers immediate health and safety, immediate and longer term mental health needs, and strategies for proactively identifying issues and addressing that could escalate to larger incidents of school violence.
