   Next Cushion Concert:

Come blow our horns
and learn about them, too
Sunday, Feb. 19

Do you have to know French to play the French horn? Perhaps not, since music is a universal language.

But to find out for sure, plan to attend the final Cushion Concert of the season on Sunday, March 19 , at Stratford Public Library from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. It's free!

Horn players Randi Patterson and Dylon Pastoor will play solos and duets as well as demonstrate the modern horn, a natural horn and garden hose horn. (You may want to bring your raincoat, too!)

The concert is designed especially for 5 to 10-year olds, but we're not really that fussy about age. Everyone will get to blow!

Emerging Artist Competition Mar. 18

Entries are now closed for the 2017 SSO Emerging Artist Competition, which will take place Saturday, Mar. 18.

This year's competition is open to standard orchestral string instruments: violin, viola, cello and bass. Competitors must be between 15 and 24 years of age as of Jan. 1, 2017.

The winner will be invited to perform as guest soloist with the SSO during the 2017-2018 season. The 2016 winners were Jennifer Bywaters (horn), a Grade 12 student in London, and trumpet players Aled Blundell, 15, and Matisse Blundell, 17, who live in Toronto. They will be featured in the SSO's April 8 concert, Stories from the Woods.
