Sara Sewell published "Sonic Experiences in the Night: The Case of the Falling Bunk at Auschwitz-Birkenau," in New Microhistorical Approaches to an Integrated History of the Holocaust, ed. Frédéric Bonnesoeur, Hannah Wilson, and Christin Zühlke, Berlin: de Gruyter, 2023.
Taryn Myers' paper entitled "The Impact of Body Talk on Body Dissatisfaction, Fat Phobia, and Negative Affect" was accepted for publication in the journal, Stigma and Health. The paper was coauthored with Dr. Lauren Stutts from Davidson College. Drs. Myers and Stutts did their clinical residencies together at the Medical College of Georgia prior to their faculty positions.
President Scott D. Miller serves as executive editor for the President to President thought leadership series, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The third chapter of the 2023-2024 President to President thought leadership series is available online. In "Making the ‘Case’ for Sustainability," Murray State University President Robert L. Jackson, Ed.D., offers creative ideas for approaching the task of fundraising, a crucial element of long-term sustainability for any campus. James Moskowitz served as the moderator for the Virginia Beach Area Candidate Forum for House Districts 96 and 97, as well as Senate District 22. The event was sponsored by the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, among others. Throughout the month, students in his course, “State and Local Politics,” attended various community and city council meetings. (Pictured here with Councilman Berlucchi.)

Eric Mazur presented two papers at the American Academy of Religion annual meeting: "Clerical Cartoons" (on representations of clergy in "gag" cartoons, 1950s and 1960s) and "A Head for Politics" (an examination of yarmulkes promoting presidential candidates in U.S. elections, 2000-present). The latter is scheduled for publication in "SELLING THE SACRED," expected in 2024.
Stephen Hock gave a talk titled "'Every Footing Is Frail': Identities in Transit in Cormac McCarthy's The Passenger and Stella Maris" as part of the panel "Cormac McCarthy: Insecure Passages, Insecure Passengers" at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association conference in Atlanta.
Taryn Myers presented two posters during the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Convention in Seattle, WA. The first, entitled "Social comparison as a predictor of body image: A meta-analytic review of correlational studies" was with colleagues from Kent State and College of Wooster. The second, entitled, "Manipulating the selfie: The relationship between selfie manipulation and factors related to body image concerns," was coauthored by VWU alumni Brittany White, Melissa Rios, Hannah Glover, and Pamela Rodgers. Myers also served as the moderator for a panel entitled "Culturally responsive eating disorder treatment: Lessons learned from how our team practices" during the Convention.
Alain Gabon was an invited guest speaker for a conference on “Islam in France and Europe” at Rollins College in Florida. He was also previously interviewed on that topic by the British radio channel The Voice of Islam.
Doug Kennedy, along with 2000 Olympic Bronze-Medal gymnast Tasha Schweikert, presented the session "Survivor as debtor in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy" at the "Accountability and Protection: Child Sexual Abuse Claims in Chapter 11" conference held in Beverly Hills California. The following week, he was an invited guest at the Annual Gala of Child USA held at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Mindy Gumpert was an invited speaker for 50 Tidewater Collegiate Academy students as part of the Passionate People Conversations series created by TCA director, Wendy Scott. Representing two non-profit organizations as an Executive Board member, Mindy gifted each student a stadium bag from the Virginia Council for Learning Disabilities and a new book from Reading Enriches All Children.
