Gabi Martorell published the third edition of "Child," a child development textbook focused on culture and diversity, with McGraw-Hill Higher Education.

Amber Gruszeczka's chemistry citation conversion guide was published in VIVA Open, Virginia's open education repository.

Dan Margolies contributed an essay on "William Appleman Williams and the Tragedy of American Foreign Relations" for the H-Diplo teaching roundtable on the Wisconsin School of Diplomatic History.
Clair Berube and her husband, Maurice Berube, authored a chapter in Jeffrey Glanz's edited book entitled "Managing Today's Schools: new skills for school leaders in the 21st century." The name of the chapter is: Leading and Managing the School Organization with a Moral Purpose. Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, February, 2022.

The paper, “The Impact of Extending Assignment Deadlines on Student Performance,” co-authored by Nadia Nafar, Angela Busila and Douglas Ziegenfuss, has been accepted for publication in the Journal of International Business Education. The article explores determinants of student success in online versus face-to-face sections of "Principles of Financial Accounting" taught by the same professor.
President Scott D. Miller and Dr. Marylouise Fennell continue to collaborate as Executive Editors on the thought leadership series President to President. The 2021-2022 series is titled “The Vitality and Power of Higher Education,” and examines how colleges are approaching their missions with new vigor and re-examining their role in the community. In the newly released fifth chapter, “The Role of the President: Leading by Wearing Bifocals Through the Pandemic and Beyond,” University of La Verne President Devorah Lieberman, Ph.D., describes an approach to strategic planning and decision-making that focuses on both the short- and long-term impacts of actions and policies. He also published an article in the January edition of Enrollment ManagerPresident Miller's daily blog, Dialogue, can be found at prezscottmiller.blogspot.com.
PRESENTATIONS AND PANELS
Elizabeth Malcolm gave the presentation "Mentoring Girls and Women in STEM at Virginia Wesleyan University" to a virtual meeting of the Virginia Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women.





Mindy Gumpert moderated a panel presentation for the “EDUC 682: Educational Leaders as Change Agents,” asynchronous course she is developing for Fall 2022. Panelists included national, local, and state leaders of organizations from Virginia Wesleyan University, represented by Taryn Myers, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Reading Enriches All Children and Chesapeake Public Schools.


President Miller led two panel discussions during the annual meeting of the Council of Independent Colleges' Presidents Institute in January: "Campus Strategies for Responding to Climate Change" (in conjunction with Second Nature) and "No Margin, No Mission: Presidential Strategies for Performance and Financial Health" (in conjunction with New American Colleges and Universities.)
OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Michelle Albert Vachris has been named as a Senior Research Fellow at the College of Charleston's Center for Public Choice and Market Process. This multi-year appointment supports research in the broad area of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) and will enable Dr. Vachris to work closely with Center faculty and students on a wide variety of projects and events.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Students of Lisa Lyon Payne’s COMM 328 pitched their campaign, "An Oyster a Day Saves the Bay," to executives from COA and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. The campaign to support the local oyster industry included: survey and focus group findings, photos, videos, Instagram and TikTok content, fact sheets, website with interactive graphics and feature pitch letter.
