Kevin Kittredge published with undergraduate co-author Dylan Roberts “Using FTIR-ATR and Chemometric Methods to Detect Sucrose Adulteration in Commercial Honey Samples” in the Virginia Journal of Science.

President Scott D. Miller released the next chapter of President to President, in which he serves as the executive editor. In the tenth and final chapter, "A Grassroots Approach to Comprehensive Wellness," Baldwin Wallace University President Robert C. Helmer, J.D., Ph.D., shares how students, faculty, and staff play an essential role in the development of health and wellness programs on campus. President Miller's daily blog, Dialogue, can be found at prezscottmiller.blogspot.com. 
PRESENTATIONS AND PANELS
Steven Emmanuel attended a conference in Kyoto, Japan, sponsored by The Greater Japan Martial Virtue Society. He received the society’s Distinguished International Leadership Award, as well as awards for Individual and Team Excellence in the demonstration portion of the conference. Emmanuel's student, Kayla Yokom, received her black belt. Kayla is the first of his VWU students to earn this distinction.
For the annual British Women Writers Conference, hosted by the University of Virginia, Kellie Holzer coordinated and chaired a panel on “Problematic Feminisms” and delivered a paper called “Un-Progressive Feminism; or, Marie Corelli Always Fails the Bechdel Test But I Still Love Her.”
Kellie Holzer presented “Telescopic Philanthropy: Navigating Mid-career Administrative Opportunities” in a May 26 Roundtable on Professionalization at the British Women Writers Conference at UVA.

Maynard Schaus, Vic Townsend, and two former students, Sara Wiltshire and Monika Metro, presented “Evidence for carnivory in harvestmen based on stable nitrogen isotopes and SEM analysis of fecal samples” at the Virginia Academy of Sciences meeting in Williamsburg.

Bill McConnell hosted a half-day webinar to provide training on an original 10-lesson science unit for elementary and middle school teachers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. He and his partners developed and aligned the curriculum to Pennsylvania and Virginia learning standards as a part of the NOAA-funded Shared Waters Project.
OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Kathy Merlock Jackson participated with other academics on a podcast panel titled “Fandom Goes to School: Pop Culture Studies/Programs” at the Con-Tinual Convention, a digital space devoted to the study of popular culture topics.

Alice Jones was elected college director/conference chair of the Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers (VACE) for 2023-2025 term and will serve on the VACE Board. The college director acts as representative of college constituents and serves as conference co-chair with the employer director for the next two annual conferences.

Mandy Reinig was elected to the ISEP's Council of Advisors for a three-year term starting July 1. ISEP is VWU's study abroad exchange consortium provider.

Benjamin Dobrin, dean of the D. Henry Watts School of Professional Studies, and April Christman, director of Counseling and Student Health, facilitated a training on intervening with suicidal individuals for the Chesapeake Police Department's Crisis Negotiation Team and Peer Support officers.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Over the spring 2023 semester, EDUC 266 Classroom Management and Teaching Strategies students partnered with third- and fourth-grade teachers to provide learning experiences and assist in stewardship activities with their elementary students. On May 9, Bill McConnell and his students assisted in species identification and water quality investigations for fourth graders at Norfolk Collegiate. This is a part of the NOAA-funded Shared Waters Project.
