Kellie Holzer published the chapter, “Yeats and Irish Folklore,” Jennifer Slivka published the chapter “A Brief (Tumultuous) History of the Island of Ireland and The Irish Literary Revival” and Terry Lindvall published “The Belfast of C. S. Lewis and Faerie Characters of the Emerald Isle” in the book, "The Faerie World of Ireland Tour Book," edited by Rowena Drinkhouse, Reformation Press, 2023.

Elizabeth Malcolm published "The potential use of biomarkers to estimate mercury in the brain, kidney, and muscle of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus)" in the journal Marine Pollution Bulletin. Four VWU alumni who assisted with the research as undergraduates were co-authors.

Kathy Merlock Jackson presented two papers at the Popular Culture Association Conference in San Antonio, Texas: "Reflections on the Bowling Green Method" and "Riding 'an enchanted horse with invisible wings': Velvet Brown's Liminal Space in National Velvet." She and Kathy Stolley, who presented "Memorializing Companion Animals: An Insight into the Human-Animal Bond," are co-chairs of the Animals and Popular Culture area.
Rebecca John presented a paper titled "Developing and Refining an Early Field Experience with Preservice Teachers" at the National Field Experience Conference in Greeley, Colorado. The presentation focused on the development of the partnership with students in EDUC 328 at Centerville Elementary School.
In addition to presenting the screening of Stu Minnis' and his film at Baylor University, Terry Lindvall spoke on "Sacred Rituals in Pagan Clothing: Cinematic Prayers as Pearls of Great Price in a Hollywood Field." He also exhibited it at the C. S. Lewis Institute of Greenville, South Carolina, with a talk on "Faith through Film."
Alice Jones and Scott Duncan of “Imagine That Game” presented an interactive break out session titled "Imagine That! Engaging and Motivating Students” as part of the Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers (VACE) annual conference held at Wintergreen Resort in Nellysford, Virginia.
Annette Clayton co-facilitated a two-part workshop titled "Ethical Decision-Making in the Digital Era" with Tory Cox PhD, California State University Long Beach, and Jim Raines PhD, California State University Monterey Bay, at the 26th National School Social Work Conference in Denver, Colorado.
Annika Quick presented "Variability in dissolved organic carbon across urban streams in Boston, Massachusetts" in a nutrient management session of the 13th National Monitoring Conference hosted by the National Water Quality Monitoring Council in Virginia Beach.

Mindy Gumpert and Kris Hall, wife of Tom Hall, the new Virginia Wesleyan golf coach, volunteered for FACT (Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater) Bike Camp. Volunteers at the camp taught individuals with autism and other disabilities to ride a bike on campus in the CMAC. Several VWU athletes came out to volunteer as well.
Mindy Gumpert was an invited judge in the area of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the 2023 Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair (VSSEF). The depth and breadth of the high school projects was impressive. Winners at VSSEF will compete in Intel ISEF, the premiere global science competition for students in grades 9-12.

Kathy Merlock Jackson received the President's Award for Exemplary Governing Board Service from the Popular Culture Association at its national conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Sally Shedd appeared in the original play "Junior League," by Louise Casini Hollis, as part of the Fringe Festival at Zeiders American Dream Theatre in Virginia Beach. She was also a featured reader for the Z's "Z Writes" script-in-hand reading of Momtopia by the same playwright.

Michelle Albert Vachris attended the 50th annual meetings of the Virginia Association of Economists in Richmond, VA. She participated in the Board meeting in her position as co-editor of the Association's Virginia Economic Journal. She supervised the presentation of her independent study student, Andrew Glass, who presented his capstone paper "Does Immigration Impact Income Inequality."

Joyce Easter is a featured guest on POGIL Podcast Season 3 in Episode 10, "Involvement in the POGIL Project."
Doug Kennedy appeared before the Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware, as part of Boy Scout Bankruptcy proceedings addressing professional's substantial contribution fee claims. While there, the Federal Circuit Court lifted its stay allowing the $2.5 billion bankruptcy plan to become effective. The trust that has been formed will now begin the work of compensating survivors of abuse while in scouting.

Takyera Coats’ and Kristen Fedesco’s Rec 312 Recreational Therapy students volunteered for Bike Camp hosted by Families of Autistic Children in Tidewater (FACT) on the VWU campus in the C-Mac and in Batten Parking lot during the week of April 10th. Recreational Therapy majors assisted individuals with autism as they learned to ride bikes through the use of adaptive equipment.

Rebecca Johns’ students in EDUC 328 observed, assisted, and taught in 3rd- and 4th-grade math classes at Centerville Elementary in Virginia Beach for five weeks to tutor and assist with instruction. Students planned and taught a complete group lesson on their last visit.
