Alice Jones has a chapter titled, "Exploring Identities and Support Needs of Stay-at-Home Fathers" in the recently published Communicating Fatherhood: New Directions in Theory, Research and Education by Vincent Waldron and Thomas Socha.
Robert Ariel coauthored a research paper titled "Teaching older adults to use retrieval practice improves their self-regulated learning" in the journal Aging, Neuropsychology, and Cognition.
Alain Gabon published "From the War-on-Terror to the War against Islamism: France in the post-9/11 Era," as part of the 9/11 Legacies Project of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the University of Lahore.
Ben Fraser published "Indirect Education: Exploring Indirectness in Teaching and Research," illumining the work of Herner Saeverot's classic text in the Nordic Studies in Education Journal Vol 43, No. 3, pp 266-271.
President Scott D. Miller serves as executive editor for the President to President thought leadership series, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. In the second chapter of the series, "A New Approach to Climate Action Planning: Reimagining Campus Sustainability in a Post-COVID Environment,” University of Puget Sound President Isiaah Crawford, Ph.D., dives into the complexity of prioritizing sustainability in modern higher education, offering ideas for identifying realistic goals, establishing benchmarks, and tracking progress in crucial areas while emphasizing the importance of engaging students and staff in the efforts to mitigate climate change. Takeyra Coats presented, “Intentionality: Leading Purposeful Activities,” at the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society Annual Conference in James City County (Williamsburg, VA). Dr. Coats also invited Morgan Decastro & Micah Fox, VWU seniors majoring in recreational therapy, to present with her.
Kathy Stolley presented virtually at the Northeast Popular and American Culture Association. Her presentation was titled "Picture This: Photographing Companion Animals and Blurring Human-Animal Boundaries."

Eric Mazur presented a paper titled "The Impact of Off-Earth Relocation and Settlement on Geo-oriented Religious Traditions: A Case Study" at the Space, Philosophy, and Ethics Conference in Edmonton, Alberta.
Sara Sewell presented "Hearing the Wehrmacht: The Audial Experiences of Polish Jews, Fall 1939" at the German Studies Association conference in Montreal, Canada.
Kellie Holzer presented a paper titled “What is Elemental in Colonial Indian Feminism: Women's Writing” at the annual conference for the Victorian Interdisciplinary Studies Association of the Western United States (VISAWUS) in Seattle, WA.
Doug Kennedy was a part of a panel at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, sponsored by Penn's Department of Political Science and ChildUSA. This was in conjunction with a screening of the Netflix Documentary "Scouts Honor," and included its Director and ChildUSA CEO.
Sara Ryan's poem "Ripening" was published in the Blood Orange Review. In addition, Ryan’s poem "Trace" was published in Atticus Review. Also, her poems "Void" and "Verge" were published in The Westchester Review.

Deirdre Gonsalves-Jackson and Nadia Nafar gave a presentation on the Global Campus talent development workshop program entitled “How Collaboration Between an Urban University and Local Government Can Enhance Workforce Skills and Increase Employability of Residents” at the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) in Washington, D.C.

Lisa Lyon Payne was moderator and discussant for a College Media Research Panel at the College Media Association/Associated Collegiate Press annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia. She brought six Marlin Chronicle editors to the conference, and Editor-in-Chief (EIC) Rhian Tramontana presented on a panel entitled "Confidently Approach People for Interviews" with EICs from UCLA and Missouri Western State University.

Steven Emmanuel will rejoin the Board of Directors for Wetlands Watch this fall. A nationally known environmental advocacy group, Wetlands Watch uses a combination of policy advocacy, grassroots education, and local activism to influence regulatory decisions. Their work is currently focused on addressing the problem of sea level rise.
Michelle Albert Vachris participated in the October meeting of the Joint Advisory Board of Economists of the Commonwealth of Virginia. First appointed to the board in 2014, Vachris is responsible for assisting with the annual review of the economic forecasts used in preparing Governor's estimates of anticipated general fund revenues.

Students enrolled in "Social Justice and Health," taught by Kathy Stolley, visited REACH, Inc. (Reading Enriches All Children) for a tour of the facility and a service activity. The visit spotlighted education and literacy as social determinants of health.

Members of the "Social Justice and Health" class, taught by Kathy Stolley, harvested and did some winter prep in the Western Bayside Community Garden. The visit spotlighted the role of community gardens within the wider contexts of hunger and food insecurity.

Takeyra Coats took 27 students to the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society Annual Conference in James City County. The students were able to network with professionals and attend educational sessions.
Linda Ferguson delivered "Communicating Across Generations" and Robin Takacs presented "Organizational Communication for First-time Managers" for supervisors and managers of Westminster-Canterbury, the Virginia Ship Repair Association, Virginia Department of Labor and Industry’s Division of Registered Apprenticeship Programs, and Lyon Shipyard. This effort was part of the Corporate Learning Partnership coordinated by Larry Belcher.
