National Senior Citizens Day - August 21

Do you have an elderly person in your life that you love and appreciate? National Senior Citizens Day, August 21, is the day to let them know how much you care and it's an opportunity to recognize their accomplishments. In 1988, Ronald Reagan proclaimed this holiday to raise awareness about issues that affect senior citizens and their quality of life.

Today, seniors are still active in their communities as well as continuing to have a strong presence in the workforce. For all they do and have achieved for the good of their communities, senior citizens deserve our thanks!

Source to Sea Project - Technical Assistance Sessions

Are you working to reduce flooding in your community or interested in nature-based solutions to flooding? CPRC, in partnership with Mid-Carolina Regional Council, is launching the Source to Sea Project - a new initiative supported by The Nature Conservancy, American Rivers, and Triangle Land Conservancy, and funded through a grant from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

This effort supports communities in the Cape Fear River Basin with planning and implementing wetland and stream restoration projects that reduce flood risks, improve water quality, and strengthen ecosystems.

While the grant does not fund project implementation directly, it provides technical assistance to help identify and develop eligible projects, engage community stakeholders, find/apply for funding opportunities, and learn how to accomplish restoration implementation.

Interested? Let's talk. If you'd like to learn more or explore a project idea, join one of our upcoming technical assistance sessions via Teams. Each session includes:

  • A brief presentation introducing the Source to Sea Project
  • A demonstration of our mapping tool
  • Dedicated time for Q&A with restoration and funding experts

To register, please contact Tara Nattress at tnattress@centralpinesnc.gov. Unable to make a session or prefer to talk one on one? Feel free to contact Tara to schedule an appointment.

Upcoming Session Dates:

  • Tuesday, September 9 | 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • Tuesday, September 23 | 2:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, October 8 | 2:00 - 4:00 pm
