Designing Smarter Roads: Permeable Pavements & Culverts

Join the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Center for Local Aid Support (CLAS) on December 18 at 2:00 pm for next month's Innovation Exchange webinar as you learn how permeable pavements and culverts are reshaping how we manage stormwater and build resilient urban infrastructure. Permeable pavements allow water to filter through surfaces like roads, trails, and parking lots, helping reduce runoff and improve water quality.

Hear directly from experts as they share insights into the design, installation, and maintenance of these innovative solutions. Learn how to tackle common challenges like clogging and ensure long-term performance.

If you have any questions, please contact CLAS@dot.gov.

Data Notes Blog: Manufacturing in the Central Pines Region

Data Notes is a blog written by CPRC Principal Planner Karyl Fuller.

I was looking at all the great data that NC Commerce has on their website and ended up on their 4D page (for Demand Driven Data Delivery). There are 6 cards on the front page. I was interested in the amount of manufacturing that is in Chatham County, so I picked the Industry Employment (yellow card) and thankfully, the data is available by county, as well a few other categories.

First, I checked out the total employment for Chatham County, 2024- 18,540 jobs. Manufacturing share was 1,660 jobs or 8.95%. So, now I wanted to know how that compared to other counties in CPRC and the state as a whole. So, I created a table with all seven counties and North Carolina.

So, the counties in our region that have a higher percentage of manufacturing jobs include Durham, Johnston and Lee Counties. Lee stands out with 30.71% of their jobs in manufacturing!

Another thing here that was interesting to me is the average weekly wage for manufacturing jobs in Durham County, at $2,748.00 per week or $142,896 per year!

So, take a look at the 4D page and let me know if you have questions!
