President's Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

As I start my Niles Rotary Presidential year, I not only carry the trust and faith you have given to me when you elected me as your club president, but I carry the torch that has been handed down year after year from one president to the next. This torch is not only my guiding light but symbolizes your belief that I will carry forth a vision that will keep our club strong and will carry us into the future.

History and tradition are important and have a special place in every organization, business and person’s life. But we can’t let ourselves be afraid to make new traditions and to add a new route to our history’s pathway. Without those who were courageous enough to say that standing still isn’t good enough, we wouldn’t have women in Rotary today. I applaud those men who stood up for that change, knowing that they were going against tradition, going against fellow members and fellow friends who felt differently. Yet, without those courageous men who went against the norm, we, I, would not be here today, representing this club as your President.

When you step into a leadership role, you come under a microscope. Has she put on weight? Bad hair day today. Looks tired. She blinks too much. I want to have that microscope look at how I am supporting you. Am I keeping it fun? Is the energy positive? Am I listening to you? Am I validating you and what you want out of Rotary? Am I helping you to find value in Rotary? Am I giving you a voice? If I am, then I am doing my job.

We are ALL leaders. That is why you are a Rotarian. You have asked me to lead this club, but I want to change your thinking and say that you asked me to be President to support you, listen to you, empower you, so that as a club, we can grow as individuals, we can provide service and thru service, benefit ourselves, our community and the world.

In the words of Past International President Cliff Dochterman: "Don't listen to the old past presidents or past governors who caution that, 'We never did it that way before.' Just remember, when the parade of success begins, everyone will want to be on your bandwagon."

I hope that you all will jump on that bandwagon with me, because I know that once we have set our minds to something, we will be successful! I look forward to a great year!
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. I hope I am a leader.”
~ John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the United States
