Making a Decision - Rebooting When Life Throws You a Curve Ball

Have you ever been put in the position where you have to make a decision? I'm talking about a "life" decision, one that requires deep thought and planning. I'm talking about the sort of decision that comes across your life plan that makes you say, "what in the heck am I gonna do"? A crossroads of which road to take and unsure of where it will lead. This is what I had to ponder this summer.
I am here to tell you, that if this happens to you, then please learn from me. The take-away is, MAKE THE DECISION and don't let it linger... don't let hesitation take over your life.

I won't get into the specifics, but we here in the Davis household were faced with a housing issue, a job issue, and family re-organization. We stumbled when our lease was up and to renew or not, when my youngest decided to move in with her bio-dad (don't jump to conclusions, she is a great kid and we love each other very much and don't have Mommy/Daughter issues), and an opportunity to increase my income and move to our place in Myrtle Beach, SC.

It was one of the craziest times for me personally. It affected my daily routine, my efficiency in getting my tasks complete, my ability to complete my responsibilities and so many stressful situations. I was stuck and questioning myself everyday, "What am I going to do? Should I let her move? Should I move South....alone? Would my husband rent a small space without giving up his awesome job? That would mean that all six of us would live at totally separate addresses! Should I get another job? Should I, could I, would I???? It actually affected my health being so stressed and wallowing in the reality of being unclear as to what my future held. I had a stomach ache most of the time and I gained back the weight I had lost. My house was getting out of control, but fortunately I found the Konmari method which helped me make sense of it all.

Thankfully, my counselor gave me awesome advise on my daughter's decision. Our landlord listened and gave us a great new lease. I worked hard and landed a management position with a new job and decided not to move to SC. I was supported in all of these decisions by a great family and great friends. Not to mention the support of my amazing "tribe", with our reboot to Pinnacle Women's Networking ...... it could not have happened without our wonderful Motivators and Associates.

Now that things have leveled off and a decision was made to stay here in Northern VA, I feel so much better, things are getting accomplished, and goals are being met. I'm working very hard, and still trying to perfect the balance of work/life/business/family. I would like to share with you one the most important things that I learned during the summer of 2019! If you are faced with a life decision, the number one thing I can suggest is:

Don't allow a decision or hesitation take over your life. Putting off a decision can take you into the depths of the world of "what ifs". It can destroy you and depress you. The stress alone can affect your health, your happiness, and every part of your life.

I want to share this article Steps to Make a Decision with you. It you are struggling with decision making, please read and follow it, and don't allow life's curve balls to interrupt your plan. Apply the steps regardless of what decision you need to make. The main thing is, don't hesitate (that doesn't mean be haste-full in the decision making or make an impulse decision). Learn from my mistake and and do yourself a favor of following a plan.

Motivator Spotlight, Jackie Cote
Born and raised in Summit, NJ, with 7 other siblings, I graduated from Salisbury State University in Salisbury, MD, with a B.S. in Elementary Education and Psychology. I came to Virginia in 1997 and have called it home ever since. I have two adorable fur babies: Roxy a border collie mix, and Ryker a chocolate lab, and both keep me active. I spent 30 years of my professional life in leadership development, mentoring, coaching, and customer care in top restaurant chains like Starbucks, Potbelly, and Outback.
With this career I found my passion for giving others the gift of believing in themselves and knowing they can achieve more than they ever thought. Through this I was able to promote over 200 employees into management roles and help them achieve their personal and professional goals and change their lives and the lives of their families.

I am a Wellness and Mindset coach and I obtained my Life and Health Coach Certification through the Health Coach Institute, a program accredited by the International Coaching Federation. I use the Habit Change Coaching Method to help create consistent behaviors that form lasting transformation in a fun and positive way without the overwhelming feeling of change. I am in a Mastery Program through the Health Coach Institute to strengthen my ability to serve my clients in a deeper way.

Personally I have struggled most of my life with body image issues, disordered eating, and lack of confidence and self-love. I discovered this held me back from creating the life and health I wanted. I used food to cope and numb the pain, but it actually resulted in more self-abuse to my body for over 30 years.  Now that I have found the freedom, confidence, and body love, I want others to experience this same freedom!

My mission is to help women love themselves exactly the way they are and no longer be at war with their bodies and have a healthy relationship with food. I help women gain back the freedom, energy, and confidence they deserve! I work with women who struggle with their relationship with food and their bodies. I am on a mission to help others turn their self-destructive habits into self-supportive ones and to turn that negative voice in their head to a loving and supportive one that lifts them up every day. Because the truth is, once you turn that self-judgment into curiosity, you can CHANGE EVERYTHING! I'll be here every step of the way! "Unconditional love. . . You're worth it!”

Associate Spotlight, Bridgete Newman
Hello everyone. My name is Bridgete Newman and I’m your Virginia Real Estate agent. I have been a member of this networking group for 2 years now and a licensed Real Estate Agent for 15 years. I must have started working when I was 12 (insert smirk here).

Real Estate is my passion. I absolutely love what I do. I didn’t seek out to be a Realtor though, I accidentally fell into it.  My degree is actually in Criminal Justice from Radford University.  I applied for a job as an Assistant to a local top producing Real Estate team after
spending 15 years in the IT world (and commuting to Tyson’s in Northern Virginia rush hour traffic two + hours a day – blah!!!), and realizing that I’m just not a 9-5er.  The Real Estate Company was right next to my house so I took the job. Fast forward just a few weeks and surprise, boss man told me to get licensed immediately. No pressure, right? So I did! Now here I am 15 years later.
I specialize in first time home buyers, move up buyers, and new construction. I have built three homes myself and I love it. Inventory is low in this area and there is a lot of new construction going on. If it’s difficult finding a resale, I often take my clients to new homes. But, buyer beware, if you’re thinking about buying a new home make sure you take your Realtor with you on the first visit to the site or they will not let you have representation. The salesperson at those sale sites represent the builder, NOT YOU.  They will not negotiate on your behalf. I will!!
If you’re looking to buy a home, hire your loan officer with the help of your Realtor (or vice versa), get pre-qualified, and have a search set up in the MLS for available properties. I can get into the home buying process in another article. For now, just remember, the Pinnacle Realtors are here to help you. Oh, and if you’re looking to buy in another state or country, we can refer you to Pinnacle Realtors (well they don’t have to be Pinnacle, but I had to put in a shameless plug) in other parts of the world. We, like all other small businesses, work mainly by referral so we depend on our friends, family, and networking to refer us, just as we refer to you.
Please remember me if you’re looking to buy or sell a home in Northern Virginia or if you know anyone, friends, family, neighbor, or otherwise... I am here to help.  I appreciate your referrals.
Thank you for listening. I look forward to meeting you at future events.
