At the November 1 Church in Conference, members of the Pastoral Search Committee were voted on and confirmed as nominated. The committee met in December and elected officers as follows: Geneva Hall-Shelton, Chair; Karen Massey, Vice Chair; Marie Cook, Secretary; Tim Getsay, Chaplain. Other members of the committee are Barbara Atchley, Beth Laxton, Hal Meeks, and Cathy Wooten. The next meeting is set for January 9, when the group will meet with Joel Snider, our transition advisor, whose bio is below. We ask that you keep the committee members in your prayers as we work through this process of discernment and self study.

NDBC is pleased to announce that we have enlisted assistance for our pastoral search from the Center for Healthy Churches (CHC). Our transition advisor is Joel Snider. Joel has been in ministry over 30 years, including 21 years as pastor at First Baptist Rome, Ga., followed by two years as the executive director of the Community Foundation for Greater Rome. He recently served as interim senior minister at First Baptist Church Athens, Ga. and is now interim pastor at First Baptist Church in Carrollton, Ga. He and his wife Cherry have two daughters. They live in Canton, Ga., where they are close to their grandchildren.
Joel is assisting with our church's self-studen process, a season of work that generally requires at least four months of focused congregational work and results in two important documents: a congregational profile and a next pastor profile. Joel will begin by meeting with the Senior Pastor Search Committee on January 9 for an initial orientation. He will encourage the committee's openness to the Holy Spirit and to follow the best practices of a healthy process. A dominant characteristic of CHC is the conviction that a good process provides the best opportunity for a good outcome! He will also ZOOM with the Diaconate on January 10 and will preach virtually on January 17.
We will provide more details soon, but this lets you know how this process will begin. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.

Missions Update: News from the Foushees
Thanks to all of you for the wonderful response to Christmas giving for our missions partners. In a difficult time, we were able to support the work of our partners to bring joy to the children and families they serve. And even as our church works to help meet the needs of our community, we also are supporting missions efforts around the world through various organizations. One of those efforts is our support for the Foushee family, Carson, Laura and baby Ada, through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Carson and Laura are CBF Field Personnel in Japan working with the Japan Baptist Convention in local church and community leadership. You may remember when they visited Northside Drive last fall and spoke about their work in Japan. When they were here, they were planning to leave soon to return to Japan. However, as with everything else, Covid changed those plans. In their most recent newsletter, Carson and Laura tell us of their year in "waiting" here in America before returning to Japan just recently. An amazing young family serving God in a place they love. Here is their most recent newsletter. Please take a few minutes to catch up with the Foushees and their work.
"Waiting has produced plenty of frustration, but also opportunities to reflect upon the blessings that abound in my life. Like the gift of extra family time in America. Or deeper relationships with Japanese people in Raleigh. Or discovering new ways to connect with friends and ministry partners. The waiting of 2020 may be over, but the lessons learned will challenge and sustain me for years to come.
