This Sunday we welcome to our pulpit guest preacher Rev. Dr. Priscilla Eppinger.

A member of NDBC since 2020, Priscilla is the executive director of the American Baptist Historical Society. Prior to her current post, she was professor of religion at Graceland University Community of Christ Seminary, in Lamoni, Iowa, where she taught theology and religious studies and chaired the seminary’s Peace Studies Committee. An ordained American Baptist clergywoman, she has also served as a pastor and minister to young adults as well as an educational missionary in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Priscilla holds a BA degree from Agnes Scott College, an MDiv from Andover Newton Theological School, and a PhD in theological and religious studies from Northwestern University and Garett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Our Lenten series this year is inspired by Marilyn McEntyre's delightful Lenten devotional book, Where the Eye Alights: Phrases for the Forty Days of Lent. I have entitled the series "Lenten Phrases," and I'll be looking at things that catch my eye, primarily in the passion narratives. Keith Walker and Melinda Clark will bring the musical offerings and I'll bring prayer and a homily each Thursday of Lent, with the exception of March 4, when I will be away on vacation.

We will pre-record these services and upload them to YouTube and FacebookGod
willing!each Thursday. Here's the schedule:

March 11
Surely Not I, Lord: Matthew 26:17-25

March 18
Watch and Pray: Matthew 26:36-46

March 25
Jesus Was Silent: Matthew 26:57-68

We will have a live-streamed Maundy Thursday service on April 1 and a Good Friday service on April 2, details to follow.

May the God of grace and peace carry you all the way to Easter.

Daniel Headrick
Associate Pastor of Lenten Phrases
It is time for the church to fill positions on the Diaconate, the Finance Committee, and the Personnel Committee. As members of the church, you have the privilege of submitting names (including your own) for consideration by the Nominating Committee. We would welcome your input. You may also volunteer yourself for any of the other ministry teams that keep our congregation running. New appointees will begin their terms of service in August of this year.

Please send these suggestions to Mary Lester (Chair of Nominating Committee) at [email protected]

The next organization in our series of spotlights on mission partners of NDBC is Buckner International, a nonprofit Christian charitable organization headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Founded as a Baptist organization, it maintains a relationship with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and the Baptist World Alliance though it works with individuals and organizations of all denominations and faiths.

Buckner is one of our regular NDBC missions partners and receives a quarterly donation from the missions budget. Although they do disaster relief work around the world, they are perfectly located to help with the terrible problems Texans and others in the hard-hit storm areas are experiencing. The Missions Committee has approved sending some of our discretionary funds to Buckner for disaster relief in the region. For more information on the Buckner's disaster relief efforts in Texas and a video, click on this link Buckner video

Some of you may remember when a group of Northside Drive members traveled to Guatemala to work with Buckner personnel. It was a rewarding and eye-opening experience for all.

This year's Lenten study is Where the Eye Alights: Phrases for the Forty Days of Lent, a book by Marilyn McEntyre. "Lenten Phrases" is the overall theme of NDBC's Lenten journey this year and will be echoed in the music and text of the weekly Lenten services. McEntyre's words and phrases can help us each take a daily, introspective approach to Lent.

Marilyn McEntyre will be joining us next Wednesday, March 10, via Zoom at 7:00 pm to discuss the book. RSVP to Will Mathews if you would like to join. A Zoom link will be sent out at a later date.

Please contact Allison Bell at [email protected] for more information.
The Pastor Search Committee thanks all who were able to participate in our first listening session in February, when we discussed NDBC's past. We also thank those who were unable to attend but took our online survey to let us hear your thoughts. If you haven't already done so it is not too late fill out the survey, and we want to hear from as many members as possible. You can complete the survey by going to this link.

Please mark your calendars for our second listening session, in which we will discuss NDBC's present. The first meeting will be Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 pm and the second meeting will be Saturday, March 27 at 9:30 am. You need attend only one session. As with the February session, we will meet virtually via Zoom. Details will be posted next week and the following week in The Pinnacle.

As always, we ask for your prayers as we go through the important and sacred work of shepherding our church toward a new pastor.
