We invite you to join us on the lawn of our sanctuary this Sunday, October 4 at 10 a.m. for a socially-distanced worship service. Bring a mask and your lawn chair (and please place your chair at least six feet from others). We'll air a recording of our worship service for those who can't make it in person.
You and your family are happily invited to attend this year’s Trunk or Treat at Northside Drive Baptist Church SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Click here for details.
Northside Drivers: Contribute . . . your words!
Our church's 23 years with James Lamkin, senior pastor and raconteur extraordinaire, has produced lots of stories, personal anecdotes, and serious memories. We are asking that you share yourswhether favorite one-liners, paragraph reminiscences, or that “time you will always remember“—to incorporate into the Northside Drive Home Companion (NDHC) events.
Please send your contributions by this Sunday, October 4, in time for our first NDHC on October 11 to Syd Janney at [email protected], by text message phone call to 404-702-3992.
Our now-retiring Senior Pastor James Lamkin has long been a fan of A Prairie Home Companion, the live radio show on air from 1974 to 2016 known for its folk and traditional musicians, tongue-in-cheek radio drama, and relaxed humor all masterminded by the wry storytelling style of Garrison Keillor. James' passions for storytelling, music, and memories make our Northside Drive Home Companion a similarly winsome format to honor James Lamkin and have fun together remembering the 23 years he has ministered among us as Senior Pastor.

Below are the Sundays, each created around a seasonal theme, when our church will gather (as Covid protocols instruct and weather permits) for these times of remembering and celebrating together. More details will follow as plans are confirmed.

October 11
Stories and Songs from a Long Pastorate
5:00 pm Church Grounds

November 15
Precious Memories. . . with Quilts as Backdrop
3:00 p.m. Church Grounds

December 6 Home for the Holidays
3:00 p.m. Church Grounds

For each event, church member/singer/musician Kurt Thomas will be the musical choreographer with James Lamkin as Chief Storyteller and Honoree. Other church members will also contribute.

Save these dates and times for the Northside Drive Home Companion series.
The Art & Soul church school class will meet this Saturday, October 3, at 9:30 a.m. via Zoom. Class time has shifted to Saturday this week, because of church worship on the lawn on Sunday, October 4. Cathy Wooten will lead our study of this week's lectionary passages, with a focus on Matthew 21:33-46, the Parable of the Tenants. You can prepare by reading the short Feasting on the Word preparatory sheet.
World Communion Day

This Sunday as we share bread and cup on World Communion Day, we remember those among us who experience food insecurity and too often a loss of hope. Our missions partner Urban Recipe is committed to providing wholesome food, as well as support, a sense of community and dignity to the individuals and families they serve. Let us give thanks for organizations like Urban Recipe and for being a part of Northside Drive, a caring community helping others.
Several months ago a group of Northside Drivers decided to do more reading to help themselves better understand and respond in a Christian way to current issues around race and social justice. All are welcome to join whenever and as often as you wish.
Meetings take place via Zoom, and the next will be Thursday, October 8, at 7 p.m. Associate Pastor Daniel Headrick will lead a discussion of The Color of Compromise: The Truth About the American Church's Complicity in Racism by Jemar Tisby. The Zoom link will be available in next week's Pinnacle. The book is available on Amazon and Kindle, and short video segments can be watched on Amazon Prime video here.
Join the Alliance of Baptists on Saturday, October 10, at 12 pm for Devoted to Justice, a 90-minute online gathering to consider issues of justice and liberation. The keynote speaker is Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II. Registration is required.
I Want to Know Christ
Paul writes to the church at Philippi that he "wants to know Christ and the power of his resurrection." Our divided attention span and fractured political landscape act as barriers to coming to know Christ. How might we discover the living Christ?
