What do you do at the Service Authority?
Overall, I help the Division of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) meet its goals to operate and maintain the Service Authority’s water and sewer systems to provide uninterrupted service to our customers. My job involves planning, directing, coordinating and supervising the Water and Wastewater Facilities, Collection and Distribution, Fleet Maintenance and Dispatch departments.
When emergencies occur, my job also involves coordinating and leading the Service Authority’s emergency response activities.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I really enjoy working with O&M field staff in delivering an exceptional customer experience by ensuring we provide prompt, professional, personalized and empathetic support; minimize water and sewer service disruptions; and provide clean and safe water to our customers. It is gratifying when our frontline staff receive written compliments from our customers, and I am usually unapologetic in broadcasting and celebrating the compliments with our staff.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of work?
I am an ardent football and soccer buff, but I’m not exactly sure which one I like the most. Most weekends, assuming we are not responding to an operational emergency, I am glued to the television watching one football/soccer team or another, texting back and forth with my son, and comparing each team’s performance and statistics. I have yet to convince my wife to join our weekend sports fascination.
What advice would you give someone looking to get into Operations & Maintenance?
I find O&M’s work very interesting and rewarding. Most of our tasks relate to operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical or instrumentation equipment, asset management, fleet maintenance, and 24/7 emergency response and resolution. To adapt and thrive in O&M work requires a customer-centric and emergency response mindset.
