Message from the General Manager: Ensuring Water Quality and Capacity for Our Community

As General Manager and CEO of Prince William Water, my top priority is making sure you have reliable water service every day. Our dedicated, professional team is fully focused on our mission to provide clean, safe and dependable water and wastewater service to our customers in Prince William County.

Water Quality

Many of the important steps we take to protect water quality happen behind the scenes:

  • We manage about $1.2 billion in infrastructure, including 2,500 miles of water and sewer pipe—most of it underground.

  • Our employees work around the clock to maintain a system with 99.999% service reliability so water is available whenever you need it.

  • Our H2O Quality Lab routinely samples and tests water throughout the system to ensure we meet or exceed all regulatory standards.

  • We actively monitor and work with our regional partners on emerging issues like salinity and PFAS (“forever chemicals”).

You can learn more in our 2026 Water Quality Report.

Water Capacity

We plan carefully to ensure we have the water our growing community will need in the decades ahead. Based on Prince William County Government’s Comprehensive Plan, our current water supply meets projected demand through 2050. As we receive new development proposals, we regularly review expected water needs and, if needed, plan to purchase additional capacity from Fairfax Water.

Sincerely,

Calvin D. Farr, Jr., P.E.

What’s on the Web, Frequently Asked Questions

You can find the answers to many Frequently Asked Questions on our website. One frequent question is how much water data centers use. In 2025, they accounted for just under 4% of our water sales. By 2050, we expect them to account for about 9%—still a manageable share of overall demand.
