Pensacola State College Commencement signals new beginnings for graduates

Escambia County Sherriff Chip Simmons, a Pensacola State College alum, told graduates to think about where they started, where they are, and where they’re going. About 450 of the 1,032 eligible for spring graduation attended the 2023 Spring Commencement ceremony held Thursday, May 11, at the Pensacola Bay Center.

It's never too late to earn a bachelor's degree


“I never dreamed that in my lifetime I would earn a bachelor’s degree,’’ said Laura Fletcher, 58, who received her Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Management – Project Management concentration.

Maria Garcia spent 22 years in the United States Air Force, rising to Senior Master Sergeant. Now, she is a physical therapist. Sarah Brunner gave birth to her second child on Feb. 20 ─ deep into the final stretch of intense studies. Now she is a veterinary technology graduate.

Culinary Arts student Luther Scott has hot plans after winning silver at SkillsUSA Florida

Luther Scott’s Airline Chicken is probably better than the mass-produced meal or snack you had on your last flight. Scott, a Pensacola State College culinary arts student, won a silver medal at the SkillsUSA Florida 2023 State Leadership and Skills Conference held April 10-13 in Jacksonville. At the competition, Scott had to create an airline chicken dish with two sides. He chose green beans and fondant potatoes.
