PLAYERS SWING NORTH AT THE PLAN TO WIN OPEN
BARRIE ON (June 6, 2016) - Barrie Country Club was this week’s host of The Plan to Win Open, sponsored by Andrew Mitchell of Investors Group. Barrie CC has long been a favourite stop on The Tour. The course is a fair and excellent test of golf and is the oldest and most established private golf club in the Barrie area. The course was in excellent condition and it was, for the most part, a very good weather day.
On the cool news front, and after 58 years of playing golf, John Duffy would plunk his first ever hole-in-one on the Par 3, 5th hole... and of course, all the while using a TaylorMade golf ball! CONGRATULATIONS JOHN!
Stephen Wright charged out of the gate this morning to win the Champ Flight shooting 73 while Greg Colling and Steve Knoch would battle out second place with matching 75's. A Flight was won by Jim Tadson's stellar 78 while Tour veteran Ian Murray would secure second place with 80. Michael Cann, B Flighter extraordinaire, captured his third win in a row by posting an 81. In second place was William Martyniw with an 83, and Steve Boss finished third with a matching 83. A nine-hole and shortened C Flight, as a result of thunderstorms, was won by George Vasic with a scintillating 39. Next best was Clayton MacKay with a 43. Seniors’ A Flight was won by Steve Dranfield with a zippy 38 and John Stollery would be crowned champion of Seniors’ B Flight. The Women’s Flight was won by first time winner, Barbara Rodd who carded a Net 30 for 9 holes.
