ACTING QUESTIONS ~ ANSWERED
An Interview with Gayla Goehl
Q: I'm 19 and I've been acting for a few years. How long should I train to be an actor?
A: The answer is different for every actor, however, most actors are ALWAYS training! Most actors, especially professional working actors, are constantly involved in taking classes or private lessons. This helps them stay sharp and focused on auditioning and getting jobs. Enrolling yourself in a good foundation class and sticking to it, is a super important part of working on your training goals.
Q: I am a parent and my child wants to become a professional actor. Is that unrealistic?
A: If your child wants to become a professional actor, they have the enthusiasm needed to express themselves and be creative. Furthermore, becoming a professional actor is not as unrealistic as it seems. You are living in the Los Angeles area and that means the hub for acting is completely accessible to you!
There are so many levels of acting your child can do before they turn into a professional actor. I teach and coach many young actors and adults, that are now leads in films and television shows. There are also hundreds of students staring in commercials, radio ads, video games and industrial films that I teach. In addition, there are many more that go on to participate in their high school and college productions. The benefits that are received are seen through a rise in the student's grades, articulation of thought, and a boost in confidence.
Every acting student becomes more alive and participates more fully in life. When anyone is truly engaged in life, then pursuing their dreams and working hard to achieve them is possible!
Q: I've took classes when I was younger at The Playground. Are there classes for me now?
A: Of course! It is like sports, not everyone is ready at the same time. That is why I have young adult classes and specialized workshops. If you are between the ages of 18 to 25, I have the perfect classes for you!
