Striving for Deeper Holiness

Pastor’s Weekly Spiritual Message

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

"Church is about belonging. The community of Jesus is about inviting people to experience belonging in a way that not only gives them peace but continues transform their lives."

Weekend Happenings

All are invited to join us this weekend at Saint Clement Parish as we come together in worship, prayer, and community for the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time!

Please note, we will have a slight change in our weekend Mass schedule -- there will be no 7:00 p.m. Mass on Sunday 2/11 due to the Super Bowl. Come worship with us at one of our earlier Masses instead!

We invite you to bring in your old palms to Mass this weekend and drop them into the baskets at the church entrance. We will have a palm burning on Tuesday in preparation for Ash Wednesday (2/14).

On Saturday our 8th grade confirmation students will have a Confirmation Retreat that concludes with a Blessing at the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Join us in praying for them!

Following the 5:00 p.m. Saturday Mass, and then during all the Sunday Masses, we will pray a special Blessing for Engaged Couples. If you are engaged to be married, be sure to join us and be blessed!

Children's Liturgy of the Word will be offered this Sunday at our 9:30 a.m. Masses for children ages 4-7. The children will be dismissed from Mass before we begin the Liturgy of the Word and will return at the Offering. Our Jubilate Children's Choir will share the beauty of their collective voices at the 9:30 a.m. Family Mass (in the church). Our young singers in grades 3-8 will rehearse at 8:45 a.m. and then lead us in song at Mass. We also will have our 1st graders from Saint Clement School hosting the 9:30 a.m. Family Mass and serving in different roles.

Our Religious Education classes will meet at 10:40 a.m.

We continue the Annual Catholic Appeal, "Together at the table" and will share a special message from the Cardinal at all Masses. See below to learn more about the ACA!

This weekend's Staff Reflection is written by Joey Wrobel, our Facilities Manager. He shares, "As I sit and reflect on this scripture, I think about how Jesus did perform miracles but that was not the only reason he was here. He was here to spread the word of the Kingdom and save us from our sins."

For this weekend's presider schedule, Mass intentions, and prayer lists, please see our Worship & Sacraments section below.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Lenten Bible Study: Time of Mercy with Fr. Kartje

Thursdays, Feb. 22, 29 and Mar. 14, 21 | 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. | Chapel

So often, Lent is associated with deprivation. We follow Jesus into the desert, as it were, because the feasting of Easter is coming, but it's not yet here. But in that desert, where food, drink, and joy can feel scarce, is the mercy of God--the cause of our joy--also scarce? This February and March, you're invited to join Fr. John Kartje, rector and president of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, for a four-week investigation of Lent as a season of abundant, overflowing mercy!

Because God's mercy is for everyone, this course is for everyone! You don't need to be familiar with the Bible at all; you just need to be interested in learning about the gift of His mercy that God so desires to give you.

Saturday, March 2 - Gratitude

Saturday, March 9 - Forgiveness

9:30 - 11:30 a.m., Chapel

Paul of Tarsus, when writing to the feisty and feuding earliest Christians repeatedly spoke of gratitude and forgiveness. It is a spiritual path, easy to remember. Let’s reflect, discuss, practice.

Join us on the first two Saturday mornings in March as we explore gratitude and forgiveness, facilitated by Fr. Ken Simpson. Hospitality will start at 9:30 a.m., and program will begin at 10 a.m. All are welcome!

Are you feeling called to be a Leader?

If you are feeling called to become a leader, are a parish leader serving on a board or council, or leading a ministry, or leading small groups (like Alpha, Following Jesus, or other faith sharing groups), then we invite you to participate in our LEADING OTHERS experiences throughout the year. You will be able to spot them in our communications by the gold stamp, so be sure to look below, and follow along on our website, in our app, or on social media platforms to see how you can grow as a leader and be rejuvenated in Christ in 2024.

Discover the profound significance of prayer as an encounter with God, which can ignite our faith, strengthen our purpose, and restore us in hope. 2024 Annual Catholic Appeal - Together at the table

This weekend at Mass, we will be inviting you to prayerfully consider making a commitment to this year's Annual Catholic Appeal. This year's theme is Together at the table. The Annual Catholic Appeal enables us to support our life together at the Lord’s table. The Appeal shares resources with struggling parish communities, Catholic schools and programs of religious education. It also supports ministry formation, including priest development and funds initiatives for justice, peace, and respect for life. Our target goal this year is $152,023. For more information or to make your pledge today, please visit annualcatholicappeal.com

Meal Train in support of Madonna House

Thank you, Saint Clement family, for your generous support of the Madonna House partnership so far! As we near the welcome of families to the Madonna House, we are excited to circulate this meal train

that will help provide weeknight dinners to the women and children staying at the House. Saint Clement has committed to providing 2 dinners a week (Monday & Tuesday) to Madonna House. We are looking for volunteers to sign-up to make meals at your home and drop off at the parish on Monday before noon to be delivered to the Madonna House on Monday afternoons. We invite you to sign-up for a date or dates that work for you in the coming weeks! This is a great opportunity to cook with your family, your friends, or maybe even your small group. In the coming weeks, the Madonna House will be home to about 20 people, with the majority of them being small children. For serving sizes, please plan to cook for about 10-12 adults.

If you need help with recipe ideas, have questions about drop-off logistics, or would like to learn more about other ways to be involved with the Madonna House, please contact Martina Ricca and Christina Oropeza. Thank you!

Lenten Almsgiving - Madonna House

For the past three months, Saint Clement has graciously supported Catholic Charities in their work to reopen the Madonna House, a women's and children's shelter for migrant families who are survivors of domestic violence. Through multiple donations of clothing, bedding, household supplies, children's toys, meal trains, welcome baskets, and more, the Saint Clement community has responded "Yes!" to the call of serving others.

As we journey through this Lenten season, we ask for your help in supporting the efforts of Saint Clement volunteers and Catholic Charities Staff in the upkeep of Madonna House. This upkeep is not exclusive to the physical structure of the House; but rather, and arguably more important, is the upkeep of the relationships and bonds created between the Saint Clement community and the families. As these women and children have been brought out of exile into a new home, it is our duty as their brothers and sisters to help care for them. Your support of our Lenten Almsgiving for Madonna House will help to cover the operating expenses of the House, and will help to provide programming essential to the families' healing.

Give a gift to Madonna House here.

Monthly Collections Update

We share our income information monthly to keep our parishioners informed about the financial health of Saint Clement Parish. This includes collection income and other income composed of stole fees, religious education tuition, fundraising and interest. As always, we thank you for your continued support of our parish! To make a donation, please click here.

Help support our Friday Sack Lunch & Hospitality Program

With the growing number of refugees from South and Central America, the needs of the pantry continue to grow. As a part of this program, volunteers also provide sack lunches to the guests at the soup kitchen. These sack lunches ensure each guest who comes to the soup kitchen for dinner may also have a meal to-go.

Aid for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe

Annual Archdiocesan Collection

On Ash Wednesday parishes across the Archdiocese of Chicago will take up a collection for Aid for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. This collection funds projects in 28 countries to build the pastoral capacity of the Church and to rebuild and restore the Faith in these countries. The funds raised in the collection are used to support the renewal of vital aspects of the Church life: seminaries, youth ministry, social service programs, pastoral centers, church construction and renovation, and Catholic communications projects.

Clement Commits: 10% goes directly to those in need

In lieu of second collections at Mass, Saint Clement Parish supports this Archdiocesan collection through our Clement Commits program. Through Clement Commits, we donate 10% of our general collections to various programs serving the diverse needs outside of our parish.

In Fiscal Year 2023, we donated $1,000 to the Aid for the Church in Central & Eastern Europe through Clement Commits.

If you wish to make an additional donation, click here.

Ash Wednesday - February 14

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting and almsgiving that ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter.

On Ash Wednesday, our foreheads are marked with ashes to humble our hearts and remind us that we were shaped from clay by God’s hands, and that we will return to God: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Ashes say you belong. You belong to God and are part of the larger church. Ashes serve as a visible reminder that we are not alone. If you have been away from the church, know God always welcomes you home. God willingly gives us His mercy.

We invite you to join us for Mass on Ash Wednesday. All Masses are held in the church unless the chapel is specified:

  • 7:00 a.m. - Daily Mass (no music)
  • 9:00 a.m. - Church & Chapel, with our Saint Clement School students
  • 12:15 p.m.
  • 5:00 p.m.
  • 7:00 p.m.

There will be ash distribution available after 7:00 a.m. Mass - 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to join us!

Lenten Friday Fast & Stations of the Cross

Fridays beginning Feb. 16 at 12:15 p.m.

Skip lunch, join Stations! We invite you to consider fasting on Fridays during the noon hour and joining us for Stations of the Cross.

Stations of the Cross is a 14-step devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ’s suffering and death. All parishioners and guests are invited to join in this mini pilgrimage this season.

Lenten Healing & Reconciliation Service

Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Mark your calendars to join us for this special Lenten service to pray, reflect, be healed, and prepare your heart for the joyful Resurrection of our Lord!

This service will include the opportunity to receive the sacraments of healing: anointing of the sick, and reconciliation (confession).

Hearing Loop technology available in the west transept of our church!

The west transept of our church now has a new technology installed to improve hearing accessibility to our parishioners and guests -- a high quality, state-of-the-art hearing loop system! This system can help you hear better whether you have a hearing aid, cochlear implant or just sometimes struggle to catch every word. For those with a hearing aid, a tele-coil (t-coil) is required to be activated in your hearing aid to tune directly into the hearing loop. We recommend checking with your hearing care professional. We also have hearing loop receivers with headphones available.
