Pastor’s Weekly Spiritual Message

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Who do you bring to Jesus and who brought you to Jesus? What's your faith story?

Exciting News: Welcoming Fr. Brett Williams to Our Community!

Letter from Fr. Peter

Dear Friends,

As we enter 2024 and continue our mission to grow the Kingdom of God, I am thrilled to welcome with you Father Brett Williams as our second associate pastor and Director of Worship and Prayer Ministry at Saint Clement!

At Saint Clement, we foster a close partnership between our excellent staff and you, our members, working hand-in-hand to engage people, promote a sense of belonging, share the gift of faith, and equip disciples to lead others to Jesus. Over the past three years, we have been incredibly fortunate to have the ministry of Fr. Matthew, who has not only served as my associate pastor, but has also taken on the role of director of the RCIA program and faith formation. However, with the growing needs of our community, it has become apparent that we require an additional associate pastor to best serve you and continue our growth.

Many of you may already be familiar with Fr. Brett, as he spent eight months with us in 2022/23 during his sabbatical. A native of Durban, South Africa, Fr. Brett was a college professor before answering the call to priesthood. He has served in various capacities within a parish as well as the diocese, including his role as the Chancellor and acting Vicar General of the Archdiocese. Father Brett brings with him incredible insight, sensitivity to ministry, and a vibrant pastoral imagination that will undoubtedly benefit our community.

I would like to extend a warm invitation to each and every one of you to join me this Sunday at the 11:15 Mass as Fr. Brett will preside at his first Mass in his new role and we officially welcome him to our community with a special blessing. Additionally, we will host a welcome reception on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 12:15 p.m. in the chapel.

Let us come together as a community to embrace this new chapter and support Fr. Brett in his ministry among us. I am confident that his presence will enrich our parish life and contribute to the continued growth of our faith community.

With much gratitude for each and everyone of you,

- Fr. Peter Wojcik, Pastor

Bible in One Year program

Have you wanted to read the whole Bible, but not known where to begin? Have you wanted to pray with all the books of the Bible?

In 2024, we want to help you accomplish this amazing goal! Read along with Scripture following a manageable schedule of daily readings, meet occasionally to discuss your experience, and get monthly video recommendations to help you keep everything in perspective. You can still begin - download the BIOY app here.

To kickstart this spiritual journey, we will have an online gathering with Fr. Peter on January 23 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. to orient ourselves with the Bible and for resources to help your Bible reading journey.

Sing to the Lord a New Song: Refreshment for a New Year

Session 2: Fingerspitzengefühl!

Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Led by Dr. Lisa Fortini-Campbell, we continue our 4-week series designed for those looking to be reinvigorated for Christ in 2024! (To watch Session 1, "Called to sainthood, unless the Devil gets us first" click here!)

Join us this Wednesday, January 17th for our second session, exploring the topic "Fingerspitzengefühl!" That delightful German word means “fingertip touch”—a good way to express the goal of discernment. We want to touch God’s fingertip so that he can guide us to make more of our everyday decisions the way he would want us to. The better at discernment we become, the holier we are each and every day. Partnership with Catholic Charities to reopen the Madonna House for asylum-seeking women + children

Thank you, Saint Clement family, for your generous support of the Madonna House partnership so far! As we near the welcome of families to the Madonna House, we are excited to circulate this meal train that will help provide weeknight dinners to the women and children staying at the House. Saint Clement has committed to providing 2 dinners a week (Monday & Tuesday) to Madonna House. We are looking for volunteers to sign-up to make meals at your home and drop off at the parish on Monday before noon to be delivered to the Madonna House on Monday afternoons.

We invite you to sign-up for a date or dates that work for you in the coming weeks! This is a great opportunity to cook with your family, your friends, or maybe even your small group. In the coming weeks, the Madonna House will be home to about 20 people, with the majority of them being small children.  For serving sizes, please plan to cook for about 10-12 adults.

If you need help with recipe ideas, have questions about drop-off logistics, or would like to learn more about other ways to be involved with the Madonna House, please contact Martina Ricca and Christina Oropeza. Thank you!

Saint Mary of the Lake in Uptown runs a weekly soup kitchen on Wednesday nights. With the growing number of refugees from South and Central America, the needs of the pantry continue to grow. As a part of this program, volunteers also provide sack lunches to the guests at the soup kitchen. These sack lunches ensure each guest who comes to the soup kitchen for dinner may also have a meal to-go.

Volunteers may signup to provide 5 sack lunches by emailing Darlene Kelly.

Year End Giving Statements

Year-end giving statements will be sent via email from Pushpay by January 31st. Statements will also be available by logging into Pushpay via https://pushpay.com/login, or via the Saint Clement app.

Monthly Collections Update

We share our income information monthly to keep our parishioners informed about the financial health of Saint Clement Parish. This includes collection income and other income composed of stole fees, religious education tuition, fundraising and interest. As always, we thank you for your continued support of our parish! To make a donation, please click here.

Community of Shepherds Update

The Community of Shepherds helps raise funds and support the ongoing capital needs of Saint Clement that our regular budget does not cover. Because of your partnership, we are able to maintain our beloved church and support various projects throughout the year.

In December, the sealing project in the Fahey basement continued and is nearly done. In the photos with this article, you will see some of the incredible work being done to maximize our storage as well as concrete our floors. We are grateful for the support of our generous donors who are helping us make Fahey a safer and more effective workspace. In addition, the church rectory project is almost complete. We are excited to welcome Fr. Brett there soon!

Hearing Loop technology available in the west transept of our church!

The west transept of our church now has a new technology installed to improve hearing accessibility to our parishioners and guests -- a high quality, state-of-the-art hearing loop system! This system can help you hear better whether you have a hearing aid, cochlear implant or just sometimes struggle to catch every word. For those with a hearing aid, a tele-coil (t-coil) is required to be activated in your hearing aid to tune directly into the hearing loop. We recommend checking with your hearing care professional. We also have hearing loop receivers with headphones available.

January is Poverty Awareness Month

During Poverty Awareness Month, join the U.S. Bishops, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, and the Catholic community in the United States in taking up Pope Francis' challenge to live in solidarity with the poor! Daily reflections

(also en Español) include ways to learn about poverty, get inspired by how communities are responding, and take action with others. You can also sign up to have the daily reflections emailed to you during Poverty Awareness Month.

In the spirit of solidarity, synodality, and subsidiarity, His Eminence Cardinal Blase J. Cupich will celebrate Mass with the students at the beginning of the Summit. Families are welcome to join and support their students for Mass.
