Striving for Deeper Holiness

Pastor’s Weekly Spiritual Message

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

"I love you to join us here at Saint Clement, not only for the worship of God, not only for growing in your own faith, but also in living out the gift of that faith that we joyfully can share with one another in helping those in need."

The Power of Our Impact

Letter from Fr. Peter, Pastor

In a world that often emphasizes individualism and self-interest, it is essential to recognize the strength and impact of a united community. Saint Clement stands as a towering spire, radiating the power of collective action and care for the mission of Jesus Christ. Through our unwavering commitment to pray, learn, serve, share, and belong, we not only strengthen ourselves as individuals but also bring hope, joy, and healing in Jesus' name to those in need.

At Saint Clement, we understand that our faith calls us to be active participants in the mission of Jesus Christ. As a testament to this commitment, we pledge to give 10% of our Sunday giving to organizations serving the underprivileged in Chicago, across the country, and around the world through our Clement Commits program. This act of giving allows us to extend our impact beyond the walls of our church, reaching those who are most in need. We highlight one of the organizations we supported this year further down in this newsletter, and you can review all the organizations we supported together this year here.

We are not merely a gathering of disconnected individuals, but a vibrant and strong community. By actively engaging in the five anchors of pray, learn, serve, share and belong, we forge deep connections and foster a sense of belonging. When we give to Saint Clement, we become agents of transformation. Our contributions go beyond financial support; they embody our commitment to love and serve others. Each act of giving, no matter how small, has the power to create a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond what we can imagine.

In our ever-evolving digital landscape we recognize the importance of embracing technology to facilitate giving. We encourage new members to enroll in online giving through our website, providing a convenient and efficient way to support our community's mission. By embracing online giving, we ensure that the act of giving remains accessible to all, regardless of physical location or circumstances.

Saint Clement stands as a testament to the power of a strong and united community. Through our commitment we actively participate in the mission of Jesus Christ. By giving 10% of our ordinary income to organizations serving those in need, we extend our impact beyond our immediate community, bringing hope and healing to individuals and communities around the world. Together, we can continue to support and strengthen Saint Clement, ensuring that our community remains a force for positive change in the world. Let us stand tall, united in our mission to bring hope, joy, and healing to all.

-Fr. Peter Wojcik, Pastor

Trivia teams built 10 bicycles to be donated

at our latest Wine Down Wednesday!

What an incredible night at our recent Wine Down Wednesday. After praying together at Mass, we gathered for refreshments, fellowship, and some friendly competition through our trivia challenge. Three teams answered 8 out of 9 trivia questions correctly with a very heated tie-breaker question to declare the winner! Then all 10 teams assembled a children’s bike to be donated to The Boys and Girls Club of Chicago. A special thank you to all who attended, to Adam for sharing his story, and to our hard-working volunteers -- many of whom pulled double-duty to help with trivia. Also, a shout out to Windy City Fieldhouse for helping to facilitate the evening. To see our recap reel click here!

We look forward to seeing you next week as we embrace our Give anchor! See article below!

Paying it Forward at next Wine Down Wednesday!

July 26, starting with 6:00 p.m. Mass

Join us for our next Wine Down Wednesday on July 26 for our Pay It Forward Night! Building on our anchor of Giving, you'll have the opportunity to buy a delicious BBQ meal from Soul & Smoke for yourself as well as to pay it forward by donating a meal! So come join us for a fun evening that starts with prayer and worship at the 6:00 p.m. Mass in the church. We then will move to the courtyard behind the parish center to enjoy the summer evening, social time, and some delicious BBQ while supporting one of our partner organizations in the community.

We encourage you to register to help us with our planning, and feel free to invite a friend or two (or more!) to join you!

August 17: "Children of Heaven" (1997) dir. Majid Majidi [1 hr. 27 min.] starring Amir Farrokh Hashemian (Iranian film). In Iran a poor boy, Ali, misplaces and loses his sister's shoes. To hide the fact from their parents, they share shoes, while Ali works out how to replace them. A story of innocence, hope, and the love of a family. Told from a Muslim perspective, it is a truly sweet movie about family.

Staff Scripture Reflection excerpt: Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

by Nicole Zenner, Chief of Staff & Strategy

"I invite you to take some time with the 2nd reading today. While it’s a short message and easy to skip over it, I’ve come to find that this is really a wonderful reminder to call on the Holy Spirit to help. Whether it’s help in praying, or help in listening, or help in waiting. It’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve made more of an effort to call on the Holy Spirit to help me through my struggles in life. To be honest, I never really understood that I could call on the Holy Spirit. But as I continue to deepen my prayer life and my relationship with Jesus, this has become the most natural thing to do. What’s even more amazing is that when I do say the words, 'Come Holy Spirit,' there is a presence that enters the room, the conversation, or the prayer. I may not recognize it right away, but the Holy Spirit is there and reminds me of God’s unconditional love for me."

Supporting Foundation for Children in Need through Clement Commits

Annual Archdiocesan collection for Missionary Co-Op

Each year, the Mission Cooperative Program of Chicago invites missionaries from around the world to share their mission work with parishes in the Archdiocese. The Foundation for Children in Need is a Catholic lay organization based in Arlington Heights. Their mission work takes place in the interior villages of India. Foundation for Children in Need provides free cleft-lip surgeries, education for orphans and physically-challenged children, care for the elderly, tailoring training for women. Contributions directly benefit the destitute, the elderly, very poor families who cannot bring their children for surgeries, physically-challenged people, and students from rural villages. To know more about the work of FCN, please visit: www.fcn-usa.org. You are also invited to watch their video on FCN Activities, as well as this FCN Home Documentary.

Clement Commits: 10% goes directly to those in need

In lieu of second collections at Mass, Saint Clement Parish supports this Archdiocesan collection through our Clement Commits program. Through Clement Commits, we donate 10% of our general collections to various programs serving the diverse needs outside of our parish.

In Fiscal Year 2023, we donated $5,000 to Missionary Co-Op / Foundation for Children in Need through Clement Commits.
