About the Program

This program delves into the critical legal challenges shaping this landscape, exploring intellectual property rights in podcast adaptation, the complexities of licensing copyrighted material, monetization strategies under legal scrutiny, and the legal ramifications of the WGA strike on podcast production and distribution.

Podcasts have become one of the most lucrative and exciting sectors of the entertainment industry. Every major production studio has either launched or acquired a podcast network, rolling out ad-free subscription platforms and striking exclusive talent deals worth tens of millions of dollars. However, podcasting’s viability has recently come into question in the face of mass layoffs, cancelled contracts, and diminishing growth in ad revenue. Have legal challenges caused the podcast bubble to burst, or is this young industry just experiencing growing pains?

Tune in to find out.

This program is presented by the Entertainment Law section, chaired by John R. Baldivia and vice-chaired by Matthew Hobbs. The section is sponsored by Lawyers' Mutual Insurance Company. Find out more at www.bhba.org.
