The McCourt School welcomed  four US Mayors  for a discussion on equitable economic development. The panel, led by Erin Mullally (MPP'17), featured GU Politics Fellow and former Mayor Alvin Brown of Jacksonville, FL; Nan Whaley, mayor of Dayton, OH; mayor Sly James of Kansas City, MO; District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser; and Mick Cornett, mayor of Oklahoma City.
 

Congratulations to the three McCourt students and two alumni named as finalists for the  Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program. Robert Dean (MIDP '16), Erin Mullally (MPP '16), Jaime Oliva (MPP '16), Ousseynou Sonko (MPP '14), and Andrew Luis Serrano (MPP '15) earned the distinction. The PMF program is a highly selective, two-year government fellowship sponsored by the Office of Personnel Management that places graduates in agencies relevant to their interests. 

Alumni participated in the 2016 McCourt Policy Conference, which centered on the theme of Global Economic Transformation. O. Felix Obi, a member of the Alumni Board, lead a discussion on policy options for facilitating a more equitable social compact between the developed and developing world and Deborah Hamilton (MPP '87) participated on a panel discussing natural resources and rapid development.


An initiative jointly convened by the McCourt School and the economics department will expand its presence in East Africa to include research on mobile money and financial inclusion in Kenya and Uganda with a $3.5 million, two-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The project, created by the Georgetown University Initiative on Innovation, Development and Evaluation (gui2de) and co-directed by McCourt faculty member James Habyarimana, will bring together mobile operators, financial institutions, IT developers and academics to develop and assess the social and economic impact of mobile money innovations.



The McCourt School and the Lugar Center, led by former U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, jointly released their new  Bipartisan Index  rankings of all members of Congress in 2015.  The non-partisan tool indicates the degree to which Senators and Representatives work across party lines.


McCourt Policy in Practice held their annual auction to raise money for their efforts in addressing environmental, education, healthcare, and infrastructure challenges in developing countries. Thank you to the alumni that participated and donated items to be auctioned off!

Thank you to the alumni that participated in the inaugural McCourt Connects with Alumni Panel Series in January and February. This year's series focused on connecting students to alumni in environment and energy policy, in international development policy, at research organizations, and in the consulting field. The McCourt School is excited to partner with our research center Edunomics Lab to host "A New Era for School Finance: Leveraging dollars to do the most for students amidst a changing climate of education leadership," on April 18, 2016  in Fisher Colloquium. McCourt alumni are invited and encouraged to attend all events hosted by the Institute for Politics and Public Service (GU Politics). Next week, they will host former Republican presidential candidate
Carly Florina  on March 14 as part of a "Reflections on Running" series with former presidential candidates. (Stay tuned for more candidates' names to be released soon!) They will also host former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor  on March 16. To stay up to date on t hese events
