Dear Community,

One of our core organizational strategies is accompaniment. Through the Nueva Esperanza Accompaniment Team (NEAT) program, your support has helped ease the transition for 269 newly arrived immigrants fleeing war, impacts of climate change, and political/economic instability from countries all around the world. Your support helps people like Tomás (name changed for confidentiality), from Colombia, gain footing and heal after fleeing ongoing violence.

Tomás and his friend, Marcony

Tomás arrived in the Bay Area in early September of 2022, and his story embodies hope and the power of community. After being targeted by police in Colombia, he was able to escape. He eventually made it to Tijuana, where he became close friends with a young man named Marcony who was also seeking safety. They shared housing, worked together, and, eventually, crossed the border into the United States. However, after crossing and asking for asylum, both men were detained. Tomás was deported to Tijuana. Only Marcony was able to make it to the Bay Area, where he settled and became connected with the work of Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity.

In Tijuana, Tomás established a successful car washing business. He soon became a target of a drug cartel, was attacked, and forced to flee for safety again. Attempting to enter the United States, he was detained, but this time, he was able to reach out to his friend Marcony, who connected him to IM4HI. Marcony became his sponsor to get out of detention and the same IM4HI Nueva Esperanza Accompaniment Team who walked alongside Marcony was willing to support Tomás. Eight months later, Tomás now has housing, community and enjoys his work in car detailing.

Today, we are receiving more requests from people seeking asylum. Will you help respond to individuals and people forced to migrate? Your financial gifts help change the lives of vulnerable newly arrived immigrants at critical moments in their lives.

Will you contribute $50 or $100 to welcome and accompany newly arrived individuals like Tomás and Marcony from countries all over the world?

In solidarity,

Rev. Deborah Lee (Executive Director), Kelly Younger (Accompaniment Manager), Nadia Tavera (NEAT Coordinator)
