Steve: GLP-1 agonists, the class of medication for weight and blood sugar management that includes Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro continue to dominate our attention.

A portion of those taking GLP-1's are getting results. However, based upon what I've seen clinically in my clients who have taken them, there's a significant number who have not gotten the results they'd hoped for.

Here are some recent developments as more research comes out about GLP-1's:

• While GLP-1's may lessen fat mass, they also increase loss of muscle mass. And of course, they're already recommending a drug to combat this, adding another med to your cabinet.
• While the FDA dismissed this, the European Medicines Agency is looking into concerns being shared that people using it are experiencing suicidal thoughts and thoughts of self-harm.
• Cases of stomach paralysis are on the rise. JAMA found increased risk of pancreatitis, gastroparesis, and bowel obstruction.
• GLP-1's can interfere with the absorption of birth control pills and how well they work, making an unintended pregnancy more likely.
• Poison centers are getting a huge uptick in calls about GLP-1's either related to side effects or counterfeit pills.
• Some endocrinologists believe that whatever your thyroid cancer risk was at the start of taking GLP-1's, that risk will increase by between 50 to 75 percent.
• According to the journal Obesity, most stop GLP-1's within one year and within another year, almost all of the weight comes back.
• It costs less $5 a month to make GLP-1's, yet Americans are charged exorbitant amounts.

2. When your results are ready, request that we set up a Pure Genomics account for you. We just need your full name, email address, and date of birth.
3. You will receive an email invitation from Pure Genomics with a link to set up your account and instructions for how to upload 23andMe or Ancestry data.
4. You will receive a confirmation from Pure Genomics when your report is ready and we can then set up an appointment to go over your results.
