The Power of Perspective

September 2026 Newsletter

Greetings!

“We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.”

— Albert Einstein

Here at the ranch, we are all still coming to terms with the passing of our last two founding herd members. As with any loss or significant change, the perspectives we take can either help us or hinder us as we figure out how to live in our changed lives. There are still moments when I am overwhelmed by sadness and miss the unique and powerful presence that Lucius and Cooper each brought. Yet, I also find joy in seeing the way their teachings live on in the lives of those they touched. This includes our equine herd members as they navigate new roles and experiences with humans and each other.

The ability to recognize, shift, and change our vantage point can give us a liberating amount of control over the way we react to situations.  I invite you to check out our articles below for tips on harnessing your perspective!

We're offering a special workshop this month for mental health and wellness professionals - especially those looking for CE (continuing education) credits. Check it out below!

May you find the Power in your Perspective this September,

Dr. Val

9 Steps to Harness the Power of Perspective

You know what they say, perspective is everything, but I suppose that depends on how you look at it!

What's certain is that there is great power in perspective. Shifting our perspective not only changes the way we think; it can also change the way we feel and act.

Anyone is capable of shifting their perspective to become aware of increased possibilities. It might take some practice but the more you do it the easier and more comfortable it becomes, until it is a habit.

Here are 9 steps to help you get acquainted with the power of perspective.

#1 - Notice yourself. Awareness and mindfulness are absolutely key in being able to recognize and shift your perspective. The first step is to notice where you are now. What are you doing, how are you feeling and what exactly ARE you thinking? It's pretty hard to change your mindset if you aren't really aware...Read more

Horse Wisdom
Seeing Things Differently.

After recently moving back home from college, Alex* was having a hard time adjusting to living with her parents after getting used "doing her own thing".

Her biggest challenge was how difficult it was to be around her father.  Early on in her sessions at Stand InBalance, Alex identified one of the horses as being just like her father: "a mean, self-centered bully." She often wanted to connect with this horse but ended up being tense and angry around him. She stated, "I cannot accomplish anything with that horse, I'm sick ....read more

Success Stories
"My experience taught me that I have value to the world just by being. I don't have to be "doing" for someone else to be valuable. I was just being with the horse, and he followed my lead. It is a good investment in yourself to spend the day outside with the horses, learning about yourself and how you interact in the world."
~ Julie
“At the Stand InBalance I learned that there are golden nuggets in the fear I often feel, and that it is important to stop and pay attention when the fear hits. I always know I am going to leave here with a nugget that I will apply immediately to my life and continue to grow into.”
~ Becky
