Separating Life from Business. Is It Possible?

It doesn’t have to be structured with a formal framework and a facilitator. Instead, one could simply set aside a block of time to reflect quietly upon past successes and struggles. Whatever process an individual chooses, conducting a life review can be a transformative experience. A good time to engage in such self-reflection is right now—stepping as we are into a new year.

We encourage introspection; call it an analysis, if you prefer. Before beginning our own, we chose to get ready by asking ourselves a few questions. One query we posed that might interest you, as well, is as follows:

  • Can a small business owner conduct a personal life review without also including a business review?
Here's What We Discovered

Small Business Milwaukee Advisor's Desk

William M. Hand, President of PC Assistants, is the latest addition to our Business Advisor’s Desk. His wide-ranging business expertise began with his formal education (undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and graduate degree from the University of Illinois.) Bill then entered the corporate world, eventually working with Fortune 500 GE Healthcare. He’s equally experienced working with mid-size commercial enterprises, as well as computer end users.

He made a big move in the late 1990s when he chose to form PC Assistants. “While I learned a lot in the corporate setting, I wanted the agility and control that comes with operating my own small business,” Bill says. As his endeavor grew, he “learned that you need to reflect on your business periodically to make sure you are running your business and not the other way around.”

  • That ties in perfectly with his first blog post for us, “Rethinking Your Small Business: A Roadmap to Resilience.” Don’t miss it. Bill shares strategies to help small business owners stay resilient and in control.

Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce

Our Mission is Your Success.

Recently introduced to Christian Thornton, CEO & President of the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce, Tracy asked that we mention this organization in our newsletter. She wants to spread the word about this chamber, its network, and all of its valuable resources.

Christian is eager to "create an awareness that you do not have to be a vet yourself to be a part of this organization." In fact, the WVCC invites all businesses and facilitates connections through support, strategic networking, collaboration, and educational workshops.

The WVCC also has a job board, member directory, a MatchAwards Federal Contracting platform, and an upcoming annual conference in October at Lambeau Field.

Please take a moment to visit the WVCC website and follow the chamber on social media. You are encouraged to contact them with any questions you might have.

One-Liners to Consider While Reflecting Upon the Past:

When was the last time you looked back before planning ahead?

A review isn’t about judgment—it’s about clarity and direction.

Pause. Reflect. Realign. Your business deserves it.

The best way to predict the future is to create it—start with a review.
