When Greg MacDonald of Fox Pro Construction heard about Clara's wish for a playhouse, he knew he had to get involved.
Together with his colleagues from business network BNI Prestige and an army of volunteers, Greg drew up plans for Clara's playhouse—he included a fairy game and notes about her favorite colours. While the playhouse was built in Greg's garage and transported to Clara's backyard, the rest of the play structure went up on a cool day in September.
Many hands helped with the framing and lifting, roofing and painting. Building materials and supplies were donated by Trail Building Supplies, Sherwin Williams, and Alberta Quality Waterproofing, who not only provided the Duradek but stayed throughout the day to help with construction. Finishing touches include a slide, climbing wall and swing, along with a puppet theatre, ice cream shop and stables. Colourful painted signs by Tegan Herron bring a whimsical touch that Clara and her sister love.
"To grant a wish on this scale you need huge involvement," says Greg of all the volunteers that helped make Clara's wish a reality. "I couldn't have done it without them. Our goal with Clara's wish was to ensure she was happy. And it looks like she is. To see a smile on a little girl's face... well, I can't wait to do it again."

A wish like Clara's is not a fleeting gift—it is a carefully planned journey designed to complement a child's medical treatment and give them the hope they need to fight their illness. Each wish requires an incredible amount of brainpower, creativity, time and generosity, which makes volunteers the backbone of Make-A-Wish.
