Owaŝte Wakaŋ: 

Sacred Healing, Antiracism and Racial Reconciliation

Sept. 29-30, 2023 (Friday supper through mid-afternoon Saturday)

Prairie Knights Lodge & Casino, Standing Rock

Led by the Venerable Paul Sneve, Archdeacon, Diocese of South Dakota

The Reconciliation Committee of the Diocese of North Dakota invites all members of the Dioceses of North Dakota and South Dakota to gather for this important formation, which is required by The Episcopal Church for lay and ordained leaders. This program has been designed to address General Convention’s requirements and certification of attendance will be provided to all who complete the seminar.

Participants are invited to contribute $50, as able, to help cover the costs of the presentation, lodging, and food. Those able to contribute more are encouraged to do so. One night’s lodging and three meals are included. (Most of the cost of this program is covered by the diocesan budget.)

Attending EYE was an incredible experience that I hope every Episcopal youth gets to experience. I have never felt more comfortable and safe in a large group of teenagers than I did in Maryland. Everyone there was incredibly kind and it was easy to make friends. One day, the ND/MN delegation were playing sand volleyball and a couple delegations joined in after a while. That is just one example of how great the people were.

At worship on Thursday night, Bishop Curry gave the sermon. It was one of the best sermons I have ever heard. To see his passion for God in person was very inspiring. All of the speakers at plenary sessions and bishops at worships were amazing. The theme was about Esther and how we all need to be the Esther of today. I learned so much and my faith grew even more.

Open Road Fund

The Open Road Fund is a community resource granting $50 million to Black folks in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota in order to create tangible pathways to liberation and prosperity. Stewarded by Nexus Community Partners and resourced by the Bush Foundation, the Open Road Fund aims to redistribute resources to present-day descendants of the Atlantic Slave Trade in an effort to build Black wealth within our communities. Applications are open until July 28, 2023. More information and application links are available here.
