Blessed Lenten Season!

"Lent is the time to say no to the asphyxia born of relationships that exclude, that try to find God while avoiding the wounds of Christ present in the wounds of his brothers and sisters: in a word, all those forms of spirituality that reduce the faith to a ghetto culture, a culture of exclusion.”

-Pope Francis

Sister Stories

S. Mary Ferrer Remembered in Parish Magazine

In the Parish Neighbors of the South Shore magazine, a regional multi-parish publication in Florida, S. Mary Ferrer Mclean was memorialized in an article entitled, "Sr. Mary Ferrer McLean: Opening Doors." The article was written by Thomas Cummings of Florida, who had S. Ferrer as an eighth-grade teacher at Cure of Ars Parish School in Merrick. He shared a bit of her story while honoring her as an educator, a volunteer beautician, and a program director in Social/Support Services at the Amityville Motherhouse. He wrote, "Sister Ferrer lived up to her chosen motto: 'Be prepared at all times for the gifts of God, and be always ready for new ones.'" Click here for the article.

A Thank You

The Movie "TILL"

We thank those of you who were able to be with us last Saturday to view the movie, "TILL." It was a poignant and disturbing film but an extremely worthwhile experience. We encourage those of you who were not able to be with us to find the film on YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, or other media. It helped us to become more aware of our racist attitudes and actions. Hopefully, we can learn and are learning to become more aware of how we treat others. We thank Maureen Muir for her footwork in negotiating for the movie and Diane Morgan and Debbie DeRupo for their technical assistance in making sure it happened.

Prayer and Action For this Coming Lenten Season

The Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee is offering a weekly prayer and reflection opportunity this Lenten season rooted in environmental justice. This effort is based on Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si'. Each week will focus on one of the seven goals of Laudato Si'. We invite you to join us in the journey. As was mentioned last week, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas have generously shared this Lenten Process with us. The seven attachments will be published in our TPC and a reminder for each week will also be given. Our Lenten time is only a week away. Please find attached reflection questions and possible actions for:

S. John Lee Has Pronounced Final Vows

It is with great joy that Homecoming Farm announces that our dear friend S. John Lee pronounced her final vows in South Korea on February 18th with three other sisters of the Little Servants of the Holy Family.

Many of you remember S. John Lee, who came to us during the second year of her postulancy in 2016. At that time, she was looking for a four-month internship at an organic farm, centered on eco-spirituality. The sisters living in Rosary Hall welcomed her with great love, and she became a part of that community as well as the Homecoming Farm community. She enjoyed the company of all the sisters here in Amityville, attended many programs and enjoyed the company of friends she made while she was with us.  S. Jeanne Clark said, "John’s joyful spirit was so appreciated by the sisters here at our Motherhouse with whom she shared community during her three-month stay. All of us were sad to see her leave, and many sisters to this day carry on correspondence with her. I assured Sister John that we would hold her in prayer as she continued her journey in religious life."

Homecoming Farm planted many seeds with John, and she went on to study with Dominican Sisters in Ireland, at the Schumacher College in England and worked in gardens promoted by her Congregation. She has become a voice for Earth in her ministries and HAS just completed the last six months at her Motherhouse in prayer and preparation for her final vows.  We are honored to have been a part in her life and her beautiful future as she responds to the Cry of the Poor and the Cry of the Earth with deep commitment and love.  Please remember her in your prayers and rejoice with her during this blessed time. -Homecoming Farm
