Sabbatical Spotlight
What’s Pastor Phyl Up To?
And on the seventh day God finished the work that God had done, and God rested on the seventh day … (Genesis 2:2)
… therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it. (Exodus 20:11)
While Pastor Phyl is away, here’s a brief spotlight of what this month holds for our pastor’s sabbatical plan. You can find Pastor Phyl’s full proposal / plan here Click here for Sabbatical Plan

Highlights from the Month of July:

Heart – took/retrieved Annora from STEM Camp in Dallas, Heartland’s Secret Agent Camp in North Kansas City, and GmaGpa Camp in Central Missouri; celebrated Annora’s birthday visiting favorite places in Oklahoma City; visited mentors and friends from First Presbyterian Church-Jefferson City, MO; managed a kid-free lunch with my best friend of 42.8 years; spent time with my aunt, sister, brother-in-law, and parents;
Soul – prayed; read; rested; visited newly opened exhibits at the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum;
Strength – hiked at Tallgrass Prairie; walked the river hills (oy!) of Hannibal, Missouri, and explored Mark Twain Cave;
Mind – read The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd (worth the hype!) and started Origin: A Genetic History of the Americas by Jennifer Raff.
Goals for this Month of August: Re-entry to the regular rhythms of work and rest and EPC.
Our collective sabbatical season continues through August. As a member of our church family, what Sabbatical Steps have you taken this month? How have you fulfilled God’s commandment to rest, loving the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind? Where is the Holy Spirit leading you in the month ahead? For ways to cultivate sabbath keeping in your life this month, follow the current Sabbatical Step listed in Sunday’s bulletin or contact the church office to see where we are on our collective sabbatical journey.

Christian Ed and Nurture Committee by Connie Jobe
Christian Education and Nurture Committee are excited to begin Sunday School preparation for this new school year! However, we need your help. Please consider becoming a part of our teaching team for our kids grades K-5 and Middle School. Middle School and High School youth will also meet a couple of times each month for fellowship and activities.
Watch the Sunday church bulletin for upcoming adult Sunday school opportunities.

Contact Connie Jobe or call the church office at 620-342-0375.
Worship Committee by Ken Weaver
Pastor Phyl returns to the pulpit on Sunday, August 7!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have everyone in worship to greet her? Please plan to attend worship that Sunday so we can fill the sanctuary, and give her and her family a BIG welcome back to celebrate her return from sabbatical!

The Worship Committee extends deep gratitude to
·        The pulpit supply including the Session and four members of the congregation who provided recorded, and printed sermons as well as preached and led our worship services
·        All who served as liturgists and Elders of the Week
·        The choir, bell choir, musicians, Steve Sieger and Cheryl Durler for gracing us with beautiful singing and music for in-person worship
·        Takako and Toshi for their beautiful singing and music for online worship
·        The members of the congregation plus Scott and Marybeth Lawson who provided Children’s Moments
·        The children serving as acolytes, and the ushers who lit their candle lighters
·        Rev. Pat Ireland for her loving pastoral care
·        The five individuals who lead worship at Presbyterian Manor, Margaret Davidson for playing the music at all services, and Betty Campbell for handing out the programs
·        The van drivers safely transporting members to worship and back home again
·        The counters each week ensuring that our offerings are well cared for
·        Lois and Richard Schrock for faithfully opening the church every Sunday morning and securing the church after worship.
·        Bob Edmiston for providing answers to so many questions
·        The office staff for their tireless support of both online and in-person worship, and the needs of the congregation
·        All members and visitors who attended either the online or in-person services

The congregation has been richly blessed by your loving contributions to the spiritual life of the church.

Free Yard Signs
You may have seen “Love Your Neighbor” signs springing up in your neighbors’ yards the past few months. Now, thanks to a grant through Kansas Leadership Center, “Love Your Neighbor” signs are being shared with Lyon County Ministerial Alliance member churches which includes EPC! EPC still has 26 signs available on a first come-first serve basis. You can pick one up from the church office, or let us know and we can deliver.
"Growing with EPC" signs
We also have “Growing with EPC” signs still available from our family sign drop last Fall, a nice reminder as the grass keeps growing with all the rain. There are 9 of these left, if yours blew away, has seen better days, or if you missed the first run. Again, stop by to pick one up, or let the office know and we’ll drop one by.
