The President's Update

Welcome to the President's Update, your go-to source for the latest insights from the leadership team at Resurrection College Prep. In each edition,

Dr. Rick Piwowarski will share important news, upcoming events, and reflections on the progress and achievements of our school community. Stay informed and connected as we continue to write our story together.

Dear Resurrection College Prep Community,

As we move through the Lenten season and into the heart of spring, I find myself reflecting on the many ways our students, faculty, and families are living out the Lasallian mission. Whether supporting children in need through our RESpunzel event, raising funds for survivors of domestic violence at the EmpowerHER Brunch, or braving the cold at the Chicago Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics, our community continues to embody Concern for the Poor and Social Justice in both word and action.

At the same time, the spirit of Respect for All Persons has been ever-present—in our warm welcome to the Class of 2029, in our commitment to inclusive learning spaces, and in the meaningful partnerships that are opening doors for young women in STEM. These efforts, alongside our athletic and academic achievements—such as our varsity basketball team’s fourth consecutive 20-win season and the multiple GCAC All-Academic honors earned by student-athletes—underscore our pursuit of Quality Education grounded in compassion, creativity, and community.

As a Lasallian school sponsored by the Christian Brothers of the Midwest, we are proud to carry forward De La Salle's vision of education that transforms lives through faith, service, and a deep commitment to human dignity. I hope the stories below inspire you as much as they’ve inspired me. Thank you for continuing to be a part of all that makes Resurrection so extraordinary.

Live Jesus in our hearts forever,

Dr. Rick Piwowarski

President

Resurrection Reflections

Taking the Plunge

In early March, Resurrection and Saint Patrick High School took on the icy waters for the annual Chicago Polar Plunge! With an incredible team of students, we braved the cold to support Special Olympics and Special Children’s Charities. I’m proud of our students for their enthusiasm and commitment to such a great cause!

Breakfast with the Bandits

Welcome, Class of 2029!

We have officially welcomed the newest generation of Bandits at Breakfast with the Bandits! Freshmen and their families gathered for a morning of good food, great company, and a warm introduction to the Resurrection community.

It was a joy to see the excitement and enthusiasm in the room as students and parents connected with classmates, teachers, and staff. We can’t wait to see how the Class of 2029 will add to our tradition of sisterhood and excellence. Welcome to the Resurrection family!

Classroom Upgrades

A group of our students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit the Merchandise Mart to help administrators select new furniture for Resurrection’s classrooms and gathering spaces! During the trip, they toured a variety of showrooms, tested different seating and desk options, and offered valuable input to ensure our future spaces are not only functional but also inviting and comfortable. Their feedback will play a key role in creating an environment that fosters collaboration, learning, and community.

Want to hear more about the experience? Tune in to the latest episode of The Bandit Rundown! Two of our students share firsthand insights about the trip, including what they learned, their favorite designs, and how the experience gave them a new perspective on classroom planning. Don't miss it!

EmpowHER Brunch

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our inaugural EmpowerHER Brunch! It was a truly inspiring morning celebrating the incredible women in our lives while supporting Wings.

A special shoutout to the Resurrection College Prep Men’s Club for their generous support and for sponsoring the delicious food from Sweet Cafe, it was a hit!

I’m grateful for the amazing turnout and the sense of community we shared. A big thank you to the Women’s Empowerment Club, Dr. Giannoulis, and Ms. LaValley for organizing such a meaningful event!

RESpunzel

RESpunzel 2025 was a tremendous success! A special thank you to Mr. Hawker, the NHS Officers, and especially Senior Mikenna Doyle for making this meaningful event possible.

Seven brave Bandits donated their hair to Children With Hair Loss, making a real difference for kids in need. Thanks to our generous community, we also raised nearly $700!

Missed out? RESpunzel will be back this Fall—we hope to see even more participants!

Women in Engineering Club

Resurrection College Prep is proud to partner with Saint Patrick High School for the launch of the Women in Engineering Club. This exciting new initiative invites young women from Resurrection to dive into the world of manufacturing and engineering through hands-on experiences and innovative design.

Participants will work with industrial machinery and cutting-edge tools to develop skills in laser cutting, mixed media creation, and more. The club aims to empower the next generation of female engineers, fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence.

Together, we’re shaping the future—one project at a time. Stay tuned for groundbreaking creations and engineering excellence!

Winter Sports Wrap Up the Season

Late last month, we had the privilege of celebrating an outstanding winter sports season at Resurrection! Our Varsity basketball team demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, finishing with an impressive 22-11 record—marking their fourth consecutive season with 20 or more wins. Our JV and freshmen teams also made great strides, showing tremendous growth and teamwork throughout the season.

Meanwhile, our bowling team dominated the lanes, with both JV and Varsity finishing undefeated in GCAC play. A special congratulations to Leah Johnson, who was named GCAC Athlete of the Year—a well-earned recognition of her talent and dedication.

I also want to recognize the hard work of our student-athletes in the classroom. Several of our students earned GCAC All-Conference and All-Academic honors, demonstrating the well-rounded excellence we strive for at Resurrection.

GCAC All-Conference Academic Award Recipients:

Basketball: Gabriela Videckis, Molly Newell, Emma Byrne

Bowling: Allison Dolatowski, Kaitlyn Osborn

GCAC All-Conference Athletic Award Recipients:

Basketball: Mia Gurdak, Abagail Acierno

Bowling: Allison Dolatowski, Mallory Kottke, Kaitlyn Osborn, Leila Vargas

None of this success would be possible without the dedication and leadership of our coaches. Thank you for the time, effort, and passion you bring to our student-athletes every day.

Live Jesus in Our Hearts Forever!

Look up! The new branding vinyl above the main school doors at Resurrection College Prep serves as a powerful reminder of our Lasallian mission: "Live Jesus in our hearts forever." This phrase, which is a parting message from the Lasallian Brothers, encourages all who walk through our doors to carry the presence of Jesus with them beyond formal prayer. It’s a belief that the spirit of Jesus continues to live in their hearts, energizing their sense of mission and purpose. As students leave the building, this reminder reinforces their potential to carry out their Lasallian values in everything they do.
