THE PRIORY POST ~ Friday, March 29, 2024

Dear Priory Families,
We are excited to announce our upcoming Open House event, taking place on Friday, April 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
During the Open House, prospective families will have the opportunity to:
- Join us for assembly
- Take a self-guided tour of our campus and visit our classrooms
- Connect with our student ambassadors and parent volunteers
- Learn about our dynamic and innovative programs
We believe that The Priory School's success is built upon the strong connections within our community. That's why we're reaching out to you, our valued families, to help spread the word about our Open House event. If you know friends or neighbours who might be interested in learning more about The Priory School, please encourage them to attend this informative event, by simply directing them to our Priory website for more details and registration or by getting in touch with our Admissions Officer, Valerie Chacra at vchacra@priory.qc.ca.

EARLY DISMISSAL AT 12:30 ON APRIL 8
Solar Eclipse Viewing Fair
In light of safety concerns on Monday, April 8, The Priory has decided to prioritize the well-being of our students, faculty and staff by implementing an early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the solar eclipse. Lunch will be provided at 12:00 p.m. before dismissal.
However, recognizing the unique educational opportunity to experience such a historic event together, we invite families to our Solar Eclipse Viewing Fair. This event, running from 1:00 p.m. to 4:36 p.m. at The Priory, is an opportunity for families to gather, learn, and safely enjoy the eclipse with a live broadcast in our gym, leading up to the peak moment of totality at 3:27 p.m. We are immensely thankful to the Brown Family for donating ISO-certified eclipse glasses for this special event.
IMPORTANT: Due to the risk of severe eye damage or blindness associated from observing the eclipse, all children attending the Viewing Fair from 1:00 to 4:36 p.m. must be accompanied by a parent, to ensure their safety and supervision.
To attend the Viewing Fair, families must RSVP and accompany their children, helping us ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone. The program for the afternoon includes a discussion and Q&A session with an astronomer, from the Astronomical Society of Canada, hands-on solar eclipse-themed activities, celestial cookie decorating, movie clips, a live broadcast, and optional outdoor viewing.
To ensure everyone's safety and to fully prepare for this event, we've set the RSVP deadline for Monday, April 1 and we are limiting attendance to a maximum of 100 attendees.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE PRIORY
7e Forum Pédagogique Français Langue Seconde (FLS)
We are proud to announce that this past Wednesday, we had the privilege of hosting the 7e Forum Pédagogique FLS. The event featured an engaging Speed Networking session aimed at Professional Development (PD) for educators, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and continuous learning within the educational community.
7e Forum Pédagogique FLS plays a pivotal role in uniting French second language teachers across Quebec, fostering an environment of shared knowledge and experiences. We were honoured to welcome esteemed partners for this event, including Learn Quebec, the Association québécoise des enseignants de français langue seconde (AQEFLS), the Association canadienne des professeurs de langues secondes (ACPLS), the Association canadienne des professionnels de l'immersion (ACPI), CPF Quebec & Nunavut, and McGill University. Their contributions and presentations added significant value to the forum, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in education.
The success and enriching experience of this forum highlights our role as a leading player in offering professional development events and workshops for Quebec educators, and the collective effort to enhance the quality of French second language education across the province of Quebec.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Caroline Bouchard, our Pedagogical Coordinator, for organizing this forum. Her commitment and hard work were instrumental in bringing about this event, and we look forward to continuing our mission of fostering connections within the educational community.

Les Mystères: Read Like a Detective Week
Les Mystères: Read Like a Detective Week transformed our school into a hub of mystery and discovery. Throughout the week, our students engaged in contests, activities and stories filled with suspense, clues, and puzzles. From classic whodunits to tales of secret codes and hidden treasures, there was something interesting for all our young Priory detectives to discover.
Our Kindergarten to Grade 3 students explored engaging Mystery Stations. Activities ranged from an interactive read-aloud of 'The Missing Mitten Mystery' to I spy observations with Waldo, animal tracking, fingerprinting, and creating with invisible ink, each designed to spark curiosity. Meanwhile, Grades 4-6 tackled the challenge of Escape Rooms, where teamwork and problem-solving skills were crucial for unlocking the secrets of Houdini’s Secret Room and other challenges.
Thanks to sessions led by our visiting authors, Monica Arnaldo and Lydia Lukidis, our students explored storytelling methods, igniting our imaginations. Alongside the Babar Book Fair, a cozy PJ day was held, featuring a read-in with blankets and flashlights.
Our deepest gratitude goes to the I Love to Read Week organizing committee, led by our dedicated Learning Specialist, Ms. Karine Eley. Their creativity truly deepened our students' love for reading, nurturing young detectives eager for their next case.
