THE PRIORY POST ~ Thursday, February 1, 2024
The Priory’s mission is to nurture each child’s inherent curiosity, develop an enthusiasm for learning and encourage intellectual and creative initiative, preparing the child to be a responsible, tolerant and self-confident global citizen.
Dear Priory Families,
We appreciate the importance you place on your child's education, and we sincerely thank you for entrusting us with their educational journey and care. Our passionate faculty and staff are deeply committed to providing a nurturing and inspirational learning environment that both challenges and nurtures the academic and personal development of every child.
As we journey through this vibrant and enriching school year, we eagerly anticipate the opportunities that the 2024-2025 academic year will bring. We are pleased to announce that re-enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year is now exclusively open to our current Priory families. This priority access ensures that your child's place at The Priory is secured.
To proceed with re-enrollment for your child, please complete the digital re-enrollment form linked below. Submitting this form early will assist Valerie Chacra and our Admissions Team in effectively planning for the upcoming year. Our focus is on securing the seats of our current Priory families before welcoming new students from our growing applicant pool. However, your decision to re-enroll your child signifies more than just securing a place for the next academic year; it reaffirms your confidence in our Priory vision and educational approach.
| |
Please submit the re-enrollment form by Friday, February 16, 2024. A $200 non-refundable registration fee per student is payable by e-transfer to payments@priory.qc.ca (please include your child's name in the memo field). This fee will be credited towards the second installment of your child's 2024-2025 tuition fees.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE PRIORY
It's Heart Month
February marks Heart Month, a time when we raise awareness for heart disease and show our support for those affected by it. This year, we have a special story to share within our own community—a story of strength, resilience, and hope. Our second-grade student, Jodi, has congenital heart disease (CHD) and has been living with a pacemaker since birth. Jodi's journey has inspired her mom, Eva Sokol, our Potter Boutique Manager, to write "My Heart's Helper," a heartwarming book aimed at bringing awareness and hope to other families affected by CHD.
What makes "My Heart's Helper" even more special is that all the proceeds from its sales will go directly to The Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation, specifically to support the Children's Hospital cardiology department. By purchasing a copy of this book, you are not only gaining insight but also contributing to a cause that can make a real difference in the lives of many children.
We are proud to announce that Jodi and her twin brother, Jesse, have recently made a contribution of $258 to the cardiology department. Their dedication is truly inspiring, and we couldn't be prouder of their efforts. As we celebrate Heart Month this February, let us come together to support not only the awareness of heart disease but also the strength and determination of children like Jodi. Thank you for your support, and together, we can make a difference.

Fractured Fairytales Presentation
Our third graders have been on an enchanting journey, exploring the world of folk tales. A highlight of their study has been the twist on classic fairy tales, transforming them into what are known as fractured fairytales. On Friday, the Grade 3 students showcased their understanding through two captivating performances of fractured fairytales. The first, titled "Cinderella Outgrows Her Glass Slippers," offered a modern take on the beloved tale of Cinderella. The second performance, "Two Pigs, a Wolf, and a Mud Pie," was based on the classic "Three Little Pigs" and incorporated characters from other fairy tales, adding an extra layer of surprise.
Our third graders did an outstanding job, bringing these stories to life with their enthusiasm and talent. The success of this project owes much to our dedicated third-grade teacher, Ms. Parker. An experienced hand in drama, Ms. Parker helped launch our school’s Drama Club back in 2014-2015. Her passion and experience in the field have been instrumental in the club's continued success, with outstanding performances year after year.

Exploring the Biodome
Our second-grade students have been working on a research project about Quebec animals. This multidisciplinary project intertwines French, English, and Art, offering our students a rich and diverse learning experience.
As a key part of their studies, our students transformed into young scientists during an educational morning at the Biodôme. This excursion provided them with a hands-on opportunity to observe a variety of animals in their natural habitats, deepening their understanding of the adaptations these creatures have developed to thrive in their environments. The highlight of the visit was an interactive workshop in French where our students identified and explored the diverse ecosystems that support different types of animals, enhancing their appreciation of wildlife.

Student-Led Conferences - SAVE THE DATE
On Thursday, February 29 (starting at dismissal at 3:30) and Friday, March 1 (during the day), you will have the opportunity to visit the school with your child to review their portfolio with the teaching team. Student-led conferences are an important part of the learning process as they encourage self-reflection and growth. During their conference, your child will serve as your guide, sharing areas of strengths and challenges encountered in the classroom.
Unlike the fall, this term’s format will be in-person. Two or three families will simultaneously attend a twenty-minute session, with the teaching team present to facilitate and coach students as they walk you through their portfolios. Students are therefore expected to accompany their parents during the student-led conference.
When to Schedule Conferences
Student-led conferences can be scheduled online using the Dash system. This online scheduling system allows parents to select a date and time that works best for their schedule. Parents can schedule conferences online with their child's teaching team on a first-come, first-served basis. The DASH portal will be open for scheduling from Thursday, February 22, at 12:00 p.m. to Monday, February 26, at 12:00 p.m.
Important Notice: Please note that due to student-led conferences, there will be no extracurricular activities on Thursday, February 29, and no Ped Day daycare services on Friday, March 1. However, the After School Program will operate normally on Thursday, February 29, from 3:45 to 6:00 p.m.

Skating Program at The Priory Starting Next Week
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the remarkable group of parents who kindly offered their time and energy to build our backyard skating rink. This Monday, we worked together to chip away at the icy surface to shape the rink. Water has been added daily, in hopeful preparation for our skating program's start next week.
Enjoy watching this time-lapse video, courtesy of Luke Nelson, our Grade 4 parent, which beautifully captures the progress of our rink.

- Our Boys' team, who faced some tough competition, emerged victorious against LCC and UCC, earning the well-deserved title of Silver Division Champions!

Grade 4 Basketball Jamboree and Panther Day
The Grade 4 students have been diligently honing their basketball skills, and now it's time for them to showcase their talents in a friendly but thrilling competition! Mr. Gentile has organized a Grade 4 Basketball Jamboree, set to take place next Thursday, February 8, right here at The Priory. This event promises not only to be a fun day filled with sportsmanship but also a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience the spirit of competition.
We are expecting teams from Kuper Academy, Academie Sainte-Anne and St-Georges, each bringing two teams to the jamboree. To match this, our own Grade 4 students will be divided into two teams, creating two divisions.
But that's not all – next Thursday is also Panther Day! We encourage all parents and family members to join us in cheering on our Panthers. Your support means the world to our young athletes, and what better way to show it than by donning your Panther shirts and filling the gym with pride! Go Panthers!
