THE PRIORY POST ~ Thursday, December 14, 2023
The Priory’s mission is to nurture each child’s inherent curiosity, develop an enthusiasm for learning and encourage intellectual and creative initiative, preparing the child to be a responsible, tolerant and self-confident global citizen.
Dear Priory Families,
Thanks to the dedication of our Priory faculty, our innovative teaching methods are continually emerging. As a result, the students enjoy an unparalleled learning experience every day.
Our two new passionate cycle one educators, Ms. Zainab and Ms. Zarina, believe that the world is a classroom waiting to be explored, which is exactly what they encourage their students to do. Rather than confining learning to the four walls of a classroom, they take their students on regular nature walks. These excursions provide opportunities for students to discover, explore, and connect with the natural world around them, as well as to ground them in the language and culture of the people of the land—the Kanyen'kehà:ka (Mohawk) nation of Tiohtià:ke (Montreal).
Their inspiration for these nature walks came from Lois Ehlert's children's book, 'Leaf Man', engaging their students in hands-on, land-based learning, which emphasizes the importance of the natural environment in the learning process. After collecting leaves, twigs, and branches during one of their outings, they brought these treasures back to the classroom, where students were then asked to create their own 'Leaf Man,' or in Kanyen'kehà:ka, ‘Onerahte’ Man, inspired by the characters in the book.
It didn’t take long to see the benefits of their land-based learning approach, which not only integrates various subjects such as science, art, and literature but also further enriches the educational experience by inviting parents to join in, creating a shared journey of discovery and learning.
Enjoy their videos, which illustrate a creative twist inspired by Lois Ehlert's beloved book, 'Leaf Man.

Quebec Traditional Dancing Workshop
On Thursday, December 21, Mme Yasmine Mesri organized an exciting event for our students from kindergarten to Grade 6. We've invited Mutins de Longueuil dancing school to conduct a Quebec Traditional Dancing Workshop. The event will kick off with a 10-minute dance performance by the dancers. Following the performance, the animators will lead interactive workshops, teaching our students some of the traditional Quebecois dances. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to not only witness the rich cultural heritage of Quebec but also actively participate in preserving and celebrating it.
To embrace the spirit of the occasion, we encourage all students to wear a plaid shirt paired with their Priory jogging pants.
If you'd like a sneak peek of the talent from Mutins de Longueuil, you can watch a video featuring their performances by clicking on the link here.

Our Annual Holiday Sing-Along
During the last week of school before the holidays, from time immemorial, Priory students, staff, and families sing their favourite holiday songs during the annual Holiday Sing-Along assembly while a piano tinkles away in the background. We hope you can join us on Friday, December 22, at 8:30 a.m. as we close out the week together on a high note.

Santa's Flea Market
Our sixth-grade students put on their elf hats this week and organized the annual Priory Santa's Flea Market. The spirit of the season is truly evident, as our senior students helped our younger ones shop for Christmas gifts at bargain prices for their families and helped wrap their treasures. All the while, they were also raising money for charity. A huge thank you to our Priory community for their generous donations.
Each gift you receive from the Santa's Flea Market was hand-picked with love and carefully wrapped by your child. Enjoy your presents!

Dear Parents,
To add to the festive spirit of the Christmas Concert, the PPA is planning a Holiday Bake Sale on Wednesday December 20th, beginning at 12:30 pm. Treat yourself and your family to some homemade treats and delicious specialty coffee or tea before enjoying our students' performances.
Parent Volunteers needed!
Volunteers are needed to help make this special event possible. We are looking for parents to bake, set up and decorate, run the event, and clean up afterwards. Please email the PPA if you are willing to volunteer and/or bake your favorite recipe to continue this valuable tradition for our community.
Baking Guidelines
In order to make the bake sale as safe as possible for children with allergies, we ask that the following rules be followed:
- Ensure that all baked goods are made with peanut and tree nut free ingredients;
- Provide an ingredient list and be sure to attach it to your baked goods;
- Send in your baked goods wrapped (as a whole or in saleable quantities), ready to be sold.
Baked goods can be dropped off at the front gate or brought directly to the gym the morning of the event before 11:00 a.m.
Proceeds Holiday Bake Sale
Proceeds from the bake sale will go to the PPA, which will use the funds to organize events and activities that enrich the Priory student experience.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your support and... Happy Baking!
