THE PRIORY POST ~ Friday, February 16, 2024

The Priory’s mission is to nurture each child’s inherent curiosity, develop an enthusiasm for learning and encourage intellectual and creative initiative, preparing the child to be a responsible, tolerant and self-confident global citizen.

Dear Priory Families,

Throughout this week's exceptional Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week, you've made every one of us feel valued and cared for. It was truly an unforgettable week, filled with gratitude for all the thoughtful touches you added each day!

This is just a small taste of the beautiful, and loving gestures received during our special week!

Monday greeted us with a 'We love you a latte!' theme, transforming our staffroom table into a breakfast haven with homemade delights - from bagels and muffins to cinnamon rolls and croissants, allowing us to taste the kindness with every bite.

"Wellness is key" Tuesday was a creative way to show you care for our well-being. The 'class' act baskets, brimming with lotions, vitamin C, and wellness tips, were a sweet way to encourage us to unwind and feel appreciated.

Valentine's Day was made special with the gift of long-stem roses and exquisite chocolates, accompanied by notes that celebrated our patience, kindness, and inspirational efforts.

Our hearts—and plates—were truly full, thanks to the incredible spread you arranged on Thursday. The diverse and delicious lunch was shared with joy among faculty and staff. Your love in preparing our lunch was deeply appreciated.

Today, Friday, brought a surprise that warmed our hearts and souls. During the morning assembly, the children performed a very special song, altering the lyrics to 'Yellow Submarine' in a gesture of thanks. To add to the warmth of the occasion, we were all presented with beautiful Priory winter hats. This moment was deeply moving for all of us, and we will hold it dear in our hearts, cherishing the memory for years to come.

Thank you, parents, for filling our hearts to the brim with your generosity and love.

Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year to all our celebrating families! Our kindergarteners embraced the Lunar New Year festivities by wearing the lucky color red. Together with our Grade 1 and 2 students, they embarked on a cultural journey, reading stories, crafting, and enjoying various activities to explore the diversity of cultures and traditions within our Priory Community. For lunch, they savoured long noodles, symbolizing wishes for a long and prosperous life. Here's to a joyful Year of the Dragon!

Choir Tour and Instrument Petting Zoo

This week, we were visited by Maret School, an independent school in Washington, D.C. Their Senior Concert Band and Concert Choir, comprising students aged 15-18, were on a tour of Montreal. They participated in a workshop at McGill University and performed at the Montreal Children's Hospital and The Priory School. There were about 50 students visiting, and during our concert, they showcased a variety of music genres, from classical to pop and funk. The entire school was thoroughly impressed, enthusiastically clapping and dancing to hits by Bruno Mars and Elton John.

The concert was followed by a unique "instrument petting zoo" for our younger students in Kindergarten to Grade 2. Priory children were invited to meet the band members up close, learn about the different instruments they played, and even try them out by pushing buttons, pulling slides, and banging on drums. Our budding musicians appreciated the

opportunity to explore the zoo and make some noise!

Pink Shirt Day - Wear Pink

On Tuesday, February 27, The Priory School will observe "Pink Shirt Day," as part of a national campaign to take a stand against bullying. Wearing a PINK shirt or any PINK accessory with Priory gym pants, acts as a symbol of our commitment to acceptance, respect, and inclusion. This campaign reinforces the message that positive change is possible when we prioritize the well-being of others and actively seek opportunities to be kind.

Animal Adoption

After researching and learning all about Canadian animals, Mme Mireault’s second-grade students were invited to virtually adopt different animals through World Wildlife Fund (wwf.ca), a nonprofit conservation organization that helps protect animals and their habitats. In return, the class will receive plush versions of the adopted animals, which will be kept in their classroom as a reminder of their shared affection for animals and the joy of learning!

Thank you, Grade 2, for your act of kindness in creating a safer world for wildlife!

THE PRIORY PANTHERS

The Priory Panthers Grade 4 Jamboree

We're thrilled to announce that our first-ever Basketball Jamboree was a tremendous success! A special shoutout goes to our Grade 4 superstars, who took to the court with enthusiasm and skill. For many, it was their first ever game action, and they exceeded all expectations.

Our Panther teams showcased remarkable teamwork, with two wins each and facing only one loss. This Jamboree wasn't just about the wins; it was a testament to our teamwork and collective effort. Unlike the trend of relying on a few key players seen in other schools, our Panthers demonstrated that every member is vital, contributing to the action and the overall success of the games.

Thanks for all the cheering and support! GO PANTHERS!
