A Note from the Property Resources Team

With Easter and the promise of Spring just ahead, we’re pleased to share our first newsletter of the year. This season of renewal feels especially meaningful as we navigate a recent transition on the Property Resources team.

We’ve said goodbye to Daiane Monteiro, a valued colleague who has returned to her previous profession, and we’re pleased to welcome Atif Hasni as a part-time team member. While Daiane’s departure has left us a bit short on bandwidth, we’re grateful for your patience and understanding.

We look forward to returning to a full staff complement soon and continuing to serve you with renewed energy in the months ahead.

Don't forget about Markplace, our new online store. It's a space where church surplus items can find new “homes.” This initiative is designed to help parishes discover and repurpose items from disestablished or amalgamated churches.

Capturing St. George, Newcastle

By Pamela Boisvert, Property Resources Consultnat

After months of planning, the day finally arrived for the Clarington Camera Club. The idea started with a simple request from one of their members asking if they might spend some time inside the former St. George, Newcastle to take photographs. My first thought was, “Well… it’s been sitting empty for quite a while, it’ll need a good cleaning first.” But as it turns out, that wasn’t what they wanted at all. They were hoping to capture the church exactly as it is, cobwebs and all.

So, on a Saturday afternoon, I headed out to Newcastle. When I arrived, a few members were already waiting at the door eager to get inside. Before long, tripods were set up throughout the aisles with lenses carefully aimed at stained glass windows, the nave, the pulpit, and even the small plaques lining the walls. For the next hour and a half the quiet space came alive in a different way, as each person found their own perspective and moments to capture.

The members later shared some of their favourite photographs with the Diocese. We hope you enjoy seeing St. George through their eyes.
