Remembering Peter Hunt

We were all saddened to hear of the loss of an SVCC family member, Peter Hunt.

Peter was Vice President of Finance & Administration at SVCC for more than 30 years and a friend and mentor to faculty, staff, and students. He touched the lives of many and was especially known for his upbeat, enthusiastic response of "Never Better" when asked how he was.

After retiring from SVCC in 2015, he remained dedicated to the SVCC Foundation as a part of the Board of Directors.

Secretary of Education Visits Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center

SVCC hosted Virginia Secretary of Education, Aimee Guidera, her staff, and local state representatives at Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center in South Hill. Visitors were given a tour of the Center For Information Technology Excellence as well as electrical, HVAC and welding labs. Paul Nichols, Superintendent of Mecklenburg County Schools, also gave a presentation showcasing the new combined middle and high school, opening in August.

Welcoming Prospective Panthers

College For a Day open houses were recently held on the Christanna and John H. Daniel campuses. High school seniors and GED grads were welcomed to the events which showcased the great opportunities SVCC has to offer.

Faculty member Scott Edmonds introduced students to the College's Industrial Technology program.

SVCC Power Line Worker (PLW)Training Program's partner, Southside Electric Cooperative, had representatives Mark Thomas and Joy Stump on hand to explain the exciting career opportunities in PLW field.
